Garmin Etrex series GPS questions

I tried to search for this here, didn't find much.

Has anyone had any luck with getting these devices to power-on automatically when power is applied (or by any other means short of taking it apart)?

Well there is one way to find out. I emailed their tech support, we'll see what they say.

Alternatively we could try to hook up some sort of solenoid to push down the button when the car turns on. Who knows.

Mind you, it gets awesome reception just sitting in my front windshield, so maybe I'll just leave it up there.

Just as follow up, did you find out what you were looking for with the E-Trex?
