Nav system design review

Hi there,

I'm doing a postgraduate course related to product design and one of the requirements of the course is to design the user interface for an in-car nav system.

If you'd like to take a look at what I've done so far and send me some feedback, I'd appreciate it.

The presentation is at http://www.zooming.info/autonav

Overall it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to review the design and send comments, unless you type very slowly or get interrupted a lot .

Thanks in advance,

Mary S.

voice recognition is very hard in the car. The main reason is car noise, outside noise and of course the radio.

Read it, and wasn't too impressed by it. It seems in the most part accurate, but the visuals are horrible. Work harder on the visuals.

the visuals look like a direct rip off of the new system in the hondas

It is very difficult to touch small targets on screen. It looks to me like you have a lot of stuff on what will be a very small screen. I would also think that the map would end up being very, very small and difficult to read. It is only 1/4 of a screen, which ends up being around 2" x 2". Think about trying to read that from 3 or 4 feet away.

For touchscreens, everything needs to be big. For navigation while driving, everything needs to be big and clear. Things like drop down menus are very difficult to use with a touchscreen.
