GPS SOftware CO-Pilot 2003

I read somewhere that the software comes with an actualy GPS receiver in the bundle for somethign like $350. Can I buy JUST the software somewhere? I dont need the GPS receiver - I already ahve one. Any links? Thanks

No the software is not legaly sold without the reciever.
You can try Ebay, but those auctions get pulled pretty quickly.

Plus I belive that CP2002 and 2003 will not work without the bundled GPS. CP2001 works fine with other GPS's though.

CP2003 does work with the rand mcnally receiver. I think the only way to get the software without the receiver is to purchase the upgrade.

So, if I buy the whole package, and get the included receiver, is there any way to hook up an external antenna to the unit? An external antenna for me is a must.

So I am trying to put all of these co-pilot threads together...

I have 4 different Garmins so I am not interested in another reciever... I can purchase Co-Pilot 2002 original disk and manual for a reasonable price (how do I know if this is legit? Should I make sure it comes with a serial number also?).

Then I would purchase the upgrade for $99... I thought I read that the 2003 version would work with other GPS recievers? Is this correct and would that be any NEMA capable reciever?

I would assume not. While I haven't tested myself, this is from the CoPilot 2k3 help file:

However, I've used both Cp2k1 and cp2k3 with my Garmin GPS35, but that is only because the GPS35 allows you to enable/disable each type of NMEA sentence is outputs.. with a little toying you can get a configuration that provides CoPilot with the information it needs, but doesn't trigger the "you must use the official copilot gps".

If you have a configurable Garmin, you might be able to get it to work.

I have not tried just turning on all NMEA stuff again since switching to cp2k3.. maybe it'd work.. but the help file suggests not. I don't see why they'd change it. It's their best form of copy protection.

nope I think copilot 2003 is like what $399? and it comes with the receiver. Its not bad considering what OEM nav systems would cost you. I only hate 1 thing about copilot, otherwise its perfect.

I have a Garmin GPS16 receiver which is the same as the 35 but just updated with WAAS capability. It is a configurable Garmin receiver. I have tried many different settings but still doesnt work with Copilot. I would much rather use Garmin GPS than Copilot GPS. It locks faster and more accurate

I would also like to use the 16 or the 35 but haven been told many times that the Garmin's will not work with CP2k2 or 2k3.

Maybe I will have to start looking for a 35 and test it myself.

Im also using the garmin gps16 on another s/w, its very fast and can even still work while under a tunnel.

One question though? do you have problem on you GPS where it kept reverting back to garmin mode?

I updated the firmware, reset the gps, and switch it to NMEA mode. I also keep loosing signals ever since I left my GPS in the car on a hot sunny day...might be damaged.

I used to use the GPS16 on Garmin's mapsource. It would only do 3D when the GPS is in Garmin mode. I always have to switch the GPS16 from NMEA mode to Garmin. So to answer your question, no it defaults at NMEA mode. It is locks pretty fast compared to my Copilot GPS receiver. The summer here can reach up to 110 here and I think it reaches 130+ inside the vehicle during summer.

I look up again what the proper configuration for the GPS35 w/copilot is and post it.. posted it like a dozen times in the past here, but I forgot it now.

Thanks for the reply....mine does 3D on NMEA mode, can get 7-8 satellite easy but still unreliable, signals kept droping off for no reason.

I dont think theres a GARMIN mode compatible software out there...ill check out tomtom 2 it might have it.
