an Italian GPS software...

Have a look at NaviPC

Let me know what you think about this software. Is there anyone who tried it?

"perfect" is a big word

What you say is a big world.
NaviPC lacks some important features like:
- On screen keyboard
- 3d view
- A decent GUI (or at least a simple way to set the route)
- Stability (sometimes it crashes)
- It costs so much!

A new version is about to be published. We will see...
I doubt will be so much better than 3.0.

Bye

- On screen keyboard - I use the WinXP osk and is perfect.
- 3d view - is it SO important?
- A decent GUI - no things that are not needed. Better simple and easy to use.
- Stability (sometimes it crashes) - never crashed.
- It costs so much! - less than other.

I think it's a good software. Not too much voice info (annoying) lot of visual info: cross view, autozoom, next 2 directions. It also have rotating maps.

I think it works better than a lot of really expensive in-car navigation systems.

I'm sure that there are better software out there, but none for italy.

Bye!

Sure there is, Infomap Navigator Europe. £49.99 for the software or £124.99 bundled with a USB GPS. 16 countries, map rotation and Voice directions. Doesn't do 3D (to be honest I've never seen the point) and the interface is too windows orientated rather than control orientated. But at the money I can't think of anything that comes close

Another one is Destinator (www.destinator1.com).

Costs about $350 I think.

Thank you for providing other replies!

Now I'm considering another problem: how to control the GPS software.

I'm using an USB numeric keypad to manage my carputer, the ideal software should be keyboard controlled, better if it has customizable keys.
For words typing I could make a little VB program which works like cellular phones, using SendKeys function.

Hope you have the right solution

I use a touchscreen with the Windows XP On Screen Keyboard (osk.exe).
Using a T9 like software will be nice as well.

nicgalla, I'm from Rome, feel free to write me.

Darkghost is on a distinguished road
Hi guys,
I'm totally new to this forum which has been suggested to me in newsgroup : it.discussioni.auto
I'm interested in buying a GPS for my car; I was first oriented to a GPS system with a 7'' monitor (such as those of pioneer e.g.), but I saw that I could also make use of my PocketPC, which could be an interesting and cheap option. Does those GPS for PALM work well or do they offer poor quality ?
I'm totally new to this domain but I really need a GPS 'cause my ability to orient myself in heavy city traffic (like in Milano, Rome, etc) is quite a disaster
Could you pls suggest me some links of general interest ? If someone of you happen to live in Milano do you know the adress of a shop where I can see different options ? (Both hardware and software if possible).

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Ciao
Darkghost
