MS Streets & Trips 2003 and 2004

Hi!

Does anybody know if MS Streets and Trips ties into a GPS recevier in any way. I'm currently looking into the 2003 & 2004 versions. I also was wondering if anybody is currently using any of those versions? How they like it?

Streets and Trips came with my Dell PC. I haven't tried running it with my GPS connected yet. I'll go try it tonight and let you know. If I remember right, it does have GPS capability. I just don't like it as a mapping program as well as Street Atlas.

OK, the version I have is 2002. It has a GPS option but my Earthmate is USB and S&T is only looking for a com port. So it won't recognize it. I would think the newer 2003/2004 version should handle it.

There was another post discussing the new version.

OK,

I bought the 2004 version and my GPS is a door to door ver 2.0. It is com port and ps2. We'll see what happens when I get it.
It would be funny if mine only works with USB.

Hi!

Well, I tried it and it sure works well. The read me that came with the software says it will work with any NMEA compliant GPS. I guess the Co-Pilot 2.0 is compliant. I have to say that after about a half hour of trying it out, I didn't like it as much as the software that came with the Co-Pilot but it does have a nice listing of restaraunts (sp). And you can increase the font size of the maps and driving directions. I'll probably use both in time.

Streets and Trips.... My experience:

GPS works great with my On$tar Hack. Refresh rate is kind of slow, but there is a Software patch/hack to change it. Exact address matching on map overlay is not so hot. Shows my house about 200 yards from actual location. Delorme Street Atlas Shows right on.

Map always shows north up. Can get a little tricky trying to navigate by map while driving. There are no navigational prompts like Delorme.

Streets and Trips is very easy to use for searching addresses and directions. You can easily import data from Excel spreadsheets, etxt files, and even your Outlook Contacts list. You can make different pushpin data files and show or hide at will. Much easier interface than Delorme Street Atlas.

No voice prompts, nor Voice control.

Here is a link to my page that has the Streets and Trips refresh rate hack link. It says it only works with S&T 2001, 2002, and 2003. Can't verify if it works on 2004 or not as I only have 2003.

streets and trips is pretty horrible and was designed as a desktop program for reference use, NOT as a navigation software although it has a lot of those type of features. I say routis is a pretty good program. Street Atlas is good and all but it has significant system requirements and it is definitely not touch screen friendly

So, would you have to say Routis is the best you have seen as for touch screen compatability? You are right, Street Atlas is dismal at best... I have not tried Routis yet.

I would say Routis is decent for touch screens. There's a few threads about Routis. The POI database isn't the best, but the update is supposed to fix that. Also the maps don't have geographical data (bodies of water, forests, etc.) but once again, the update coming out soon is supposed to.

If you look for screen shots of Routis, you'll see the buttons are fairly easy to use with a touchscreen and pretty much everything will work without a mouse or keyboard.

I had trips 2004, routis, and destinator running all at the same time for a trip to orlando. They all worked good. Love the POIs of trips 2004, the navigation of routis and the voice and POIs of destinator. Used GPSgate to run all three. Was easy to with routis while having trips running side by side so I can see POIs.
