New Copilot Reviews?
So, has anyone gotten a chance to play with the new Copilot software? I'm dying to find out how compatible it is with various GPS's, and I'm also pretty curious about the new two-way messaging that this version has...
Cheers,
Taylor

Okay. Quick and dirty. Its better. The best thing? When you select a box to enter text it brings up a on screen keyboard. Very handy if you are like me and don't like to reach for your keyboard all the time. You can now slew the screen around by draging the cursor across where you want it to slew. You can have it display speed, altitude, Lat/Long and GPS time. I didn't play with the Copilot live function but it could usefull for the Big Brother types or anybody who want others to know where they are. The tracking/messeging can be done from Copilot or ALK's Copilot live web site. Lets see...You can get rid of the pointer trail if you so desire. The only thing that I see wrong (if can call it that) is that the map screen is smaller now. I will try and give more updates as I use it more. If anybody has any specific questions feel free to ask.
REQUEST: Can somebody make it so you can switch between external apps and ME? I can go to Copilot from with in ME but would like to be able to go back to ME without quiting Copilot.

Cool - thanks for the review! Glad to hear about the onscreen keyboard! It also looks from the screenshots as if everything is really big. I have a low-res screen (tv resolution), and am hoping that CoPilot will run well on it. From what your shots show, it should. Looks like I'll be getting it - especially to play with the interesting Big Brother stuff...
Anyone know the best (cheapest) place to order it? Surely I can find it for under retail ($250) right?

I think if you buy Copilot 2003 ALK will give you the free upgrade to Copilot 7. I bought 2003 about a month ago and the just sent me the upgrade. Make sure you register though. Oh and they also sent me the code so I can use the Canada maps. Big thumbs up to ALK for taking care of their customers. They also sent the Europe CD but that also takes a code that costs (I think) $90 to open. I don't think I can sail the Yukon over there so I am not going to be making that investment. As for be able to see on a low res; you should be able to see the majority of what you need but I think the street names on the map might be hard. If you are more interested in the turn-by-turn you should be good to go.

I installed copilot 7 today. I was happy to see that they've added highway exit numbers to they're data. The ability to drag the map is also a cool new feature. The big complaint i have with version 7 is that the interface cuts down the visible map area by at least 1/3 from 2003. as you can see from the screen shots posted by others there is a large space at the bottom and the right side of the screen taken up by some of the new features. I assume that many people in here like myself have a 7" widescreen monitor and having more map showing is much more preferable to having more than half the screen taken up by buttons and such. i know that some of you computer experts out there can come up with a way to get us some more map area. or better yet if enough of us complain to alk about the lack of map space, maybe they'll change it.

Naamanf:
Thanks for the info! One question for you.. Can you make the text size of the road labels (ie the street names) larger? Apparently you cannot in earlier versions. On the screenshots you posted, it still looks like the text is small as hell.

Is the voice guidance still like the 2002,2003 or can you change the voice? I just got AT&T's natural voices and would love to change the copilot voice to AT&T's voice.

Yeah, but isn't 2003 more expensive than 7? It requires the GPS, which would bump the price up I would think. If I can get 2003 cheaper than $250 somewhere, I'll definitely do it, but I didn't think I could. (Any suggestions?)

Hmm...Well, that is a bit dissapointing. I wish they had a full-screen mode. The pictures I've seen do show the map as a little less than 1/2 the screen, and on a 7" monitor (especially a low-res one), that isn't much. As for the turn by turn, I will be using that to some extent, but a lot of the time I'll have it on for geek factor. Maybe I should stick with Delorme's Street Atlas for that, as I hear (from these forums) that some think it's better for just showing you where you are from second to second. It's especially dissapointing if they don't have the ability to increase text size. That text looks hard to read even on a vga screen!
All that being said though, I'd really like to find about about their live positioning stuff, as I think it would be cool as hell (and terribly geeky) for my friends to be able to find out where I am, ping points on the map for me, etc. If anyone tries that out, let me know
Cheers,
Taytay

I got copiot live 7 and to my LUCK the install disk is %^&*@# up and keeps telling me some error...grrrrr
Can someone here hook me up with the image of the install disk? this will beat the time it would take to call them up and ask for a replacement and wait another 5-7 days for shipping.
Thanks.
