Well just make sure you have disconnected the power coming from the usb port or you may end up back feeding the MB, which in turn may draw more current....

yeah, the only two wires that actually run to/from the USB port are the data wires, I was aware of that potential problem so I took precautions.

What about the powered usb hub, would that keep the gps locked up? If thats the case, i wouldnt wanna splice into the gps, just keep the usb hub powered.
I might be able to wake up the pc with touchscreen or keyboard this way?

Awesome idea!

I hated waiting a long time to get a GPS fix, specially when I was showing off the CarPC to someone.

Do you think it will work with the Rand McNally Serial one?

So, I take it you now have the gps connected to an accessory 12V line or is it always on (battery 12V)?

It has to be a line where 12 volts is supplied to the regulator no matter what key the position is in.

So the Constant On / or the Battery run is fine. I'll use the battery run line before it goes into the shutdown controller.

I see, well, just add a switch to cut the power if you have your car sitting for long periods of time.
I like the idea!

The GPS might kill your battery no? Any idea how many watts the GPS + the USB hub are going to eat up?

Sounds like the GPS takes 1 Watt if it's 120 mA. I was just saying if your car will be sitting for weeks....I DON'T KNOW!!
