possible to run StreetAtlas 04 without a CD-ROM drive?

i noticed that it asks you for where the data cd or files are, so can i just copy the 2nd CD to the harddrive and point it over there? I dont plan on keeping an optical drive in my car.

Here's what I was planning to do: Use Nero (or some program like that) to take an image of the CD and then use DAEMON Tools to mount it as virtual cd-rom. But if there's an option of installing the whole thing to hd, go with that - much easier

Both the install CD and the data CD have setup programs to install the program and the data onto your hd. Then it stops asking you where the data is.

I'm in the same boat. I gave Delorme a call and they said that I can upgrade to the 2004 for $20. Also Alcohol 120% is a great program to burn an image of any cd or dvd to a hdd.

I haven't really tried either but 2004 doesn't seem too different from 2003.

Just did this last night. After installing SA 04, insert the data disk and run setup. It should copy everything to the SA dir, and you can now run it without cd.

Is 04 better than my old beater RWE?

Does it have more eyecandy and therefore suck more cpu power?

Remember, besides the program features changing... more inportiantly you have updated maps with the newer versions. That is importiant if you do alot of long distance traveling... They keep adding roads around me and it's nice to have them updated in my computer.

I agree, however if it takes more cpu power to operate, then it won't work for me...I don't have much more cpu to spare.
