GPS Software

I have a couple of questions about handheld GPS. I need the software Called "MapSend Topo in the US" My magellan Gps is OK but the bastards at these GPS companies lure you into buying the extra software for the thing to "maximize" its capabilities. Well, after a little research it GREATLY INCREASES its capabilites, but i don't want to spend $150.00 on GPS software after i have dropped 250.00 on the GPS. Does anyone know where i could download it for free? Or, do you have to have specific software for specific models of GPS. I have a Magellan sport track map.

Thanks

I have the Magellan Sportrak also. The Mapsend Topo program lets you upload detailed map data into the handheld GPS's memory. Without this, you're limited to the builtin maps. If you are connecting the GPS to a PC or laptop, you can use the GPS as the receiver and any GPS software like Steet Atlas or Copilot for detailed mapping. This is really the way to go if you intend to use the GPS in your car. That and the tiny display make a handheld GPS not good for car navigation. That's why I also bought an Earthmate.
