Keep us updated. I really don't want to pay nearly $1000 just for the GPS software

Hi Perkz
My understanding is that the UBD CD maps cant be used with oziexplorer (not without doing screen captures and manually stiching all the maps together) but the Melway, Sydway CDs can. The Sydway etc cost more than the UBD, about AU$200 from memory.
Oziexplorer will show you where you are on a map and works well but does not plot routes in the same way as the other software being discussed here, you dont get a friendly voice saying "Turn left in 50 meters".
Oxiexplorer is great for use with topographic maps etc when exploring the outback and off road.
Cheers
Cheers

Cool, thanks for that. It looks like it will be compliant with all the major software. Putting a bid on now.

I finally bought Travroute BT Copilot Live 4 for my PPC. Awesome, as this is the first time I tried my hand on GPS. It just, works!
Most of the time it gives the right guidance, however, if you dont follow and go off course, it tries to recalculate new route, and then come up with funny routes.
I have an instance that I was going to Auburn from Hurstville, where I would need to turn left into Paramatta Rd somewhere, but co-pilot prompts me to turn right at the lights and then do a "turn around"!!!!! WTF...
Overall it is not bad, simply becoz this is the first time I experience the power of GPS I guess. It certainly can be better, such as the robotic male tts voice, I really dont like it, and its not loud enough.
Bluetooth connection is just automatic, effortless, I didnt expect that.
Just my thoughts.

I bought it as a package (Emtac BT GPS/software/maps/SD card/mounting kit/chargers) from Brian at GPSOZ up in Mona Vale.
That cost me $979! Now that I am broke.
But yes its really awesome to use, even on a pocket pc. I'd guess it would be even better to have copilot installed on a carpc, but unfortunately, the one i bought is for PPC only, and you have to activate it on the single PPC.
There is another version/package that is for laptop/pc, Copilot live Laptop|7 i think its called, if you have your own usb GPS Receiver, all you need to buy is this software/map to install on your carpc (which is what I am planning to do when I get my carpc setup .. in N months time).
Thats for $600 i think, and you get all australian city/towns roads, voice guidance ( I guess you dont get this with mapsource), everything.
What is the best thing with this co-pilot software is, it not only give you voice directions, It actually tells you(well, in robotic UK accent) the name of the street, instead of just "turn right at 100m.." that most other software do.
As you live Melbourne, Theres a place in St Kilda that sells them even cheaper i think, http://www.ja-gps.com.au/gps-travroute_laptop1.html

No worries mate. I just hope that these things can be cheaper to get in Aust. At least comparably cheaper, australian distributors get a really big cut in the RRP of their products which is not a good thing, is it?

if anyone actually gets any of this software, let us know what it's like. I have OziExplorer and don't really like the idea of scanning in every page of the melways. The one from http://maptrax.com.au/ looks hopeful as it's compatible with this piece of software. If anyone has it, PM me!
