Free and Basic GPS software...

I'm looking for a very basic GPS app, one that will give me my co-ordinates etc and is pretty small?

Any suggestions?

Ive had a search about and most the stuff I find is just rubbish, or not what im looking for.

What do you mean by "rubbish"? Your requirements as listed above only require a "rubbish" application. You want something that will display your longitude/latitude/speed etc, with no maps? That should be very easy to code, just need to read the NMEA strings from the serial port and display them.

the reason why the free ones aren't that great is because the free maps are not good. The reason GPS costs so much is the companies that make the maps have to actually send people out to drive around to find new roads and make sure their maps are valid. All that costs a lot of money so they have to charge a lot to let another company develop a GPS app with their maps

Never thought about that, mmm, I will give it a raz. I also found that there is a demo program with the bluetooth unit im borrowing atm which works. cheers time to code!

btw. I meant the search results were full of rubbish, not the programs.

Have a look at GPSS very basic, but should be usable if you just want to plot a location.

No probs. I DLed and registered it when I first got my Deluo GPS.
Gave a very solid fix as to where I was not quite to street level, but to town level which was enough for testing. Also gives Co-ords and a bsic "Dashboard" feature with things like a speedo and direction gauge/compass etc

If you want full GPS units have a look in your Local Costco (if you or someone you know is a member).

If you want PC one have a look at Deluo

Here's the thread about the little program I wrote, GPS Diary. The source code is also on my website, so you can cut out the part you don't want with a tiny bit of coding skill.
