Hi, thanks for replyin, sorry bit slow on getting bak to you all,

ehm yeh the gps device still gets power even when my epia motherboard is turned off, stupid opus obviously doesn't cut the power completely, yeh but when the pc is off the gps starts to flash which means by the readme that the gps has a fix, solid means searching.

I know this to be true because i was using it with my laptop in the car the otherday working fine for bout 1/2 hour and the gps was flashing indicating it had a fix which it had because of autoroute working.

Hi, after windows does that wee scroll thingy at the boot screen and goes to the black screen with the mouse pointer(just before the welcome screen), it is then when the LED goes solid, i have auto route installed, but does not launch automatically, and that testinfo.exe prog doesn't start automatically not that i know, but nothing can be using it when it starts because if i go and run say autoroute 1st it can access it, so obviously nothing else must be accessing it?? dunno?

Unless autoroute has some driver or something it loads with windows?
Im probably best trying some other gps nav thing, any recomendations, live in uk mind, so was thinking destinator?

Any more help would be very much appreciated

Thanks Again

Mine does the same thing

Just a note that I have the same "puck" GPS as yours, connected to an M10000 motherboard, and I have exactly the same symptoms as yours.

I at first though that the GPS might just be blinking at startup to say "not initialized". However, right after I power-on the system, the LED is solid, then about forty-five seconds later it starts blinking (which is about the amount of time that it is advertised to take to get a fix from a cold start). Then I get the "Windows Starting" screen about ten seconds later, and the LED goes back to solid.

If I go into the GPSInfo program that ships with the unit, it shows that it sees 12 satellites, but they are all red, which means that there is no fix. If I hit "Cold Start", I only see one red satellite from then on.

I uninstalled the drivers and restarted, but had the same symptoms, so it seems like the generic USB is doing it, not something specific to the drivers.

I'm thining of installing Linux on the hard drive, just to see whether *its* USB initilization would have the same symptom, but that is a lot of work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! It sounds like a lot of people are using the same receiver (I bought it based on recommendations from this forum). Other than myself and the original poster, is anyone else having any problems. Of those who are using it successfully, what is your system configuration?

Same here, a lot of people said it was "the" unit to have, since it works with so many packages and seemed like the most universal, self powered receiver out there...

I was thinking bluetooth, but if I have to run a wire for power, I might has well run it for the signal

have you guys tested with the GPS outside of the car. you may need to take into account the fact that the car and its decorations (tint for the windows) may be acting as a perfect shield that prevents the GPS device from receiving anything.

Eh?

Yeh tried it outside car also tried it inside car and gets lock as soon as the pc is turned off, i hav left it in the car for a week now letting it "charge up" but still same problem when windows starts, sometimes it locks while the pc on but only for like 5 mins i reckon. I have a funny feeling its something to do with the touchscreen(if thats what u other guys are using), i am only using the 2 usb ports on the bak of the board, which is a hub, so i think the touchscreen is inteferring with the gps device. Maybe someone with those 2 extra ports(pci backplate bit) connected to the board could try the gps in those instead of the bak?

I don't have either device, so this is just a guess.

Do you have a Wi-Fi card? I couldn't get my home-cooked card to work with my router running. As soon as the router was unplugged I had upto 10 satellites locked on.
