Newbie to MP3car.com, GPS help

what up. i was reffered here by someone on Sounddomain.com, the Mobile Video forum there blows. Anyway my question:

I have a Eclipse 7002 in dash screen, Eclipse never made a GPS unit for the 7002, so i was wondering if there is a GPS unit that would work. I was thinkin one that has A/V outputs or just Video outputs so i could just hook it into the inputs on my Eclipse. any help would be great, thanks.

Well, that one is what this whole site is about. There very many different answers to the question of cost, that is really up to you. But the concept is very possible - take a look around for a while, read as much as you can, and always search first when you have a question, the answer is usually already there.

Welcome, dig that username :P

you dont want to use that screen with a computer and GPS.

It's an NTSC screen, which is about 400 lines of resolution. The closest you are going to get to that with a computer is 480 lines. That means text will be unreadable.

That would be bad for GPS, can't read street names.

Mostly people build thiers themself, basic issues are where to mount it, how / where to mount the screen, power supply, and hardware.. If you browse this forum you will find the answers to all those questions. There are places you can buy a carputer but it would be much better if you could make it, also alot cheaper

You have to keep in mind that carputer GPS or any other GPS that's not built into the car is really just that. Add on. Don't expect it to tell you where you're are in a tunnel or areas where the sky is unavailable.

Now if there's a way to communicate the car with the GPS software...say with the OBD-II connector. Then we're going somewhere.

Check out my 4runner pictures. I have the same model Eclipse deck and I'm running Copiolt. It works fine for me. If you run a software like CoPiolt, which is NTSC friendly, you don't have to read any small prints.
