Nope, that's because you don't have a Garmin GPS. I figured out (finally, and after much swearing and shouting of WHY, GOD, WHY) that MapSource will switch off the map detail whenever it detects a non-garmin GPS plugged in.
Sometimes you can trick it to show the detail again by zooming in/out but it'll just turn off again once you start moving

nup - sorry, unless you could decompile the program and re-code it then i don't think its possible.
First, MapSource uses the Gamin scentence structure (instead of NMEA like our GPS's) and then i think it asks the GPS for its model/serial no. to make sure that its 'allowed' to use the software.

no idea mate have been wathcing the post i posted up and the guys are waiting too see whats its like.
i have a 7" unipac screen TFT atm and the clarity is good but no were near as good as a VGA/XGA monitor, ill just relocate the screen to the head rests and use one of the new XGA monitor. which should almost complete my setup.

Ok guys I have complete retail versions of:
OziExplorer
Raster 250K: ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, NT & WA
MapSend: VIC, NSW, ACT
Thinking of trying some of these on my mates laptop, have to purchase GPS receiver first though.
Whats the best receiver?
What software should I use?
Thanks
Adam

Sure if a moving map is all you are after then they should work. I've tried OziExplorer with Raster 250K and it wasn't really all that acurate.
Wasn't able to get Mapsend working, I thought you needed the magellan gps?
Forget about using Garmin Mapsource!
I'm currently playing around with Magellan Navigator on a 466mhz laptop, it's a little slow but other then that it seems to work. It's not very well designed though and seeing there are not too many other options I think i'll have to live with it for awhile longer. I'm yet to try it on the carpc which is faster then the laptop.
With the gps I picked mine up from ebay for $90 delivered from singapore. It's USB and works fine.

Group buy?
hi guys.
What's happened to the aus group buy?
Wondering if I should take the plunge and get it off ebay. $388+45 is a little painful though.
