I've been reading through this forum, trying to make sence what to use as my main GPS software for my system. But I hardly got anything out of it...

I'm still looking for the best software for my system and i've found a couple of them that are good, but they lack some of the functionality that I need

1) Route66, great program, looks nice, but lacks voice direction and re-routing
2) Fugawi, well, this lacks everything, unless you plan to rebuild your car to a boat
3) Microsoft Autoroute, havn't tried it yet
4) Destinator3, tried to find PC screenshots, but couldn't find any
5) Navigon Europe, anyone tried it?
6) Infomap Navigator, this one looks nice, anyone tried it?

MS Autoroute really doesn't work at all in car. All it does is show your position on the map and they don't seem to be particularly accurate either. Seems to be sensitive to the type of GPS as well. It's blindingly fast at calculating long routes.
I'm going to declare an interest here as I sell dozens a month but Infomap Navigator is the value for money choice. £35 for GB & Ireland, £50 for the whole of Europe including GB & Ireland. Search for a destination and a couple of mouse clicks later you're on your way with visual and audible driving directions. It has street level mapping that rotates in direction of travel. Automatic recalculation of route if you miss your turning. Has full postcodes for the UK and some other useful features such as find nearest. 2 mouse clicks and it'll show the nearest one of every category such as banks, petrol stations, night life etc etc. Also get free support and free upgrades to the latest version (excluding maps). It isn't perfect (too many tiny icons and need to start the GPS every time) but it is improving with every release. I've seen the development and I'm excited about what's coming later this year.

I use the Navigon software on PDA and I'm vry pleased with it. Does anyone have experience with the PC version?

try using

best place to find screen shots of Destinator is in either the Freedrive or MapMonkey forums.

They are both just PC front ends for Destinator SDK.

Freedrive is easiest to use on a 7" but you may find its lacking features. CDRSKUL is still actively developing Freedrive (however things have slowed down a little after his new arrival!

I did search. I'm talking about Navigon, not destinator.
It's called Navigon SDK 4.0 or something for use on a notebook. I'm only fammiliar with Navigon Mobile Navigator 3, 4 and 5 for PDA.

Do I only need the PC program and can I use the PDA maps?

I use infomap navigator and find its really quite ok... the 'v4.3 plus' version has a carpc interface and scout mode for speedcams etc... it is quick to recalculate routes when you go past a turning you should have taken, once set up doesnt send you up cart tracks when theres better roads available (like destinator seems to), has full postcode database (which i found is very accurate) including house numbering on each street when you zoom in and also it integrates well with roadrunner front end.

I broadly agree with Falken up there however some of the info markers are wrong, none of the petrol stations around my way are where they say they are- eg its put the cash dispenser on the sainsburies site correctly but sainsburies petrol station is way off 600 yards down the road according to the map (when really they are both in the same place)... restaurants are just as bad but they seem to get cash machines and railway stations in the right place. A minor gripe for an otherwise useful application.
