I don't think SAT2004 has this option.

how does this work? i have routis in front of me and haven't figured out how to set an avoidance. i came into work this morning and got stuck on 95, hopped off and routis kept trying to reroute me back onto it. i tried selecting it in the route list, but didnt find any options to do anything with the selection.

click the menu button, then click destinations. click the detour button, then select 95 from the list of roads. click the little red AVD button, then click the green NAV button. =)

also, CLR will un-avoid a road while you are still on that screen, before rerouting . RST will reset the routing avoidances back to default after you have hit the green NAV button and rerouted yourself.

unfortunatly, i dont see any way to avoid just part of a road. for instance, if you have to drive 40 miles on I-95 to get home, and just needed to route aroudn the first 10 miles. to do that, you would have to run it on avoid for the first 10 miles, then turn off avoid and try to get back from there.

I played around with mappoint2004 w/o VOICES and hated it, Switched back to Street Atlas 2004.... moving to Routis, soon as i get a GPS that will work with it.

What was it that you hated about it? The qualit of the maps and good API means that such applications like VOICES can be developed to provide all the functionality that all these other applications don't have.

Each application has it's + and -. The key to VOICES was choosing an application that has great map base. The functionality that is already available in the VOICES Beta makes the VOICES / Mappoint an excellent solution. With additions comming very soon such as traffic data etc, you would be hard pressed to match it.

I have to admit to never using VOICES, and only reading about it briefly a month ago, so i'm not very fluent in what exactly it is capable of.

from a standalone usage point (in or out of car), I hated the user interface of mappoint in comparison to delorme street atlas.

on my desktop, i use SA because of all the features. in the car, i'm switching to Routis because its simple, and does better point-to-point on the fly mapping.

some have suggested Copilot to me, but this almost seems like a mythilogical software to me at this point, because i've never seen it before, and cant find it anywhere for under $250.

i'm tried and ruled out using mappoint in a standalone deskttop enviroment because i think the UI is crap. my beef is with the UI though, so if VOICES alters this enough, perhaps my issue is solved and it deserves a relook?

@Spectrrr: I agree, the Mappoint interface is crap. VOICES does not use any of the Mappoint interface. It uses mappoint as an object, so basically it is totally hidden except for the fact you are using a Mappoint map and data.

Although VOICES uses Mappoint routing algorythms and functionality, it does not even make use of Mappoints GPS interface. SilentAdmirer developed VOICES own GPS interface to provide access to a greater amount of location data.

Street Atlas is good software and indeed I used to use this on my laptop. However, using it with 7" touch screen is not practical. It does not have the 'integrated' approach that VOICES is able to provide.

For example, whilst playing Radio, MP3s, XM, how would you get Street Atlas to mute or lower the volume when it's giving you are routing instruction? VOICES is able to do this.

Um... I click menu, then destinations. There is no detour button, just ... oh wait.... I have Routis 2003, not 2004. Version 1.1.0NA copyright 2002-2003.

As far as MapPoint... what a piece of junk. It was clearly NOT designed with GPS use in mind. Great, it has an excellent API, but out of the box it's
a complete piece of crap. About the only thing it does well is provide point to point directions like MapQuest/MapBlast. Even with the AGPS add-on it's not a hell of a lot better.

@Robr: See my post above, that's why we developed VOICES. Mappoint has good data, routing and map quality... VOICES makes up for what Microsoft missed out. Again, VOICES does not use the Mappoint GPS functionality, VOICES has it's own GPS interface.

There will be a new version of VOICES out this weekend. Please note that VOICES is in BETA at the moment, but never the less is pretty stable.
