GPS signal when parked in a garage

Hi! I've read that some people make their GPS receiver to be always on, thus they get very fast lock times. But every day, I park my car in a subterranean parking (2 floors under street) and, of course, it GPS signal gets lost. Will help in any way if I leave my GPS connected? May be it remembers the last position, and when I go out it will lock faster?

Thanks

NO way you'll acomplish anything by leaving the signal on in the garage. You have to have a clear view of the sky for the gps signal to lock on. Even when it's rainy and cloudy, sometimes the signal gets weak. The best thing to do is to be stationary (don't move the car) until the gps locks. I have copilot and a rand mcnally gps reciever and I lock usually in less than 30 secs, but when i start driving before it locks, it usually takes a while longer. Maybe thats just me, no science to prove it, but maybe someone on here knows better.

How does the GPS in my Lexus seem to be locked on as soon as I start the car?

Does anyone know of GPS mapping software that works well on a 7" screen?

Please email me gps1(at)d2tech.net

A few gps devices will actually store the last known coordinates of the device for hot starting it when you turn it on again. Ex: the delorme usb earthmate(SiRF based).
