Just picked one up and returning it..

Okay, I thought for this much money I would get at least a neutral GPs.

I just happen to be shopping and picked it up and nowhere did it say that
I need to use their lamo software.

I have Streets & Trips, I also have IGuidance which is way better.

I am going to return this unit and get the one off Amazon the tiny,
USB/BlueTooth for 80$ vs 120.

I wanted to use NetStumbler, I wanted to use it with Streets & Trips if
needed, I also wanted to use it with iGuidance.

I wanted to collect NetStumbler Data of WiFi points in my city and dump it
on a map. This stupid unit will not let you do that....

Check amazon out.. I had something bookmarked and not sure if I had my
eye on the OnCourse SiRF star III Bluetooth GPS Receiver with WAAS or
something similar. I also have a PocketPC PDA with iGuidance on it and
supports BlueTooth so I think I am better off with that.

Use Garmin nRoute on PC

To use GPSProxyPC + Garmin NRoute on PC, the software needed as below:-
GPSProxyPC download here:-
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...p.exe?download

Garmin NRoute download here:-
http://www.garmin.com/software/nRouteEnglish_261.exe
Note: You must have legal software for Garmin Mapsource in order to work.

com0com download here:-
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/c...k.zip?download

1. Install GPSProxyPC, Garmin NRoute, use map installer to install MY map.
2. Install com0com, pls follow its guide included in the zip for installation.
3. Use regedit to change following:-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\com0com\Parameters\CNCA0]
"PortName"="COM4"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\com0com\Parameters\CNCB0]
"PortName"="COM5"
4. You need to know the COM port connecting to ur GPS Receiver, in my case through Bluetooth using COM Port 7.
5. GPSProxyPC Setting:-
GPS:
GPS type: NMEA0183
GPS COM Port: COM7
Baud Rate: 4800

Application:
Application COM Port: COM4 (which used by com0com)
Baud Rate: 4800

6. Garmin NRoute Setting:-
Goto Utilities -> Select GPS -> Serial Port, select COM5 here.

7. Then follow this sequence, connect GPS Receiver on COM7, Start GPSProxyPC, Start Garmin NRoute and you are ready to go.

GPS Rcr - (COM7) - GPSProxyPC - (COM4) - com0com - (COM5) - NRoute

Other software similiar to com0com as below:-
1. Franson GPSGate PC
http://franson.com/gpsgate/

2. Virtual Serial Ports Driver XP 5.1

Resolved it...

I ended up finding the GPSGate v2.0 and I am trying it out as we speak.
The 14 day trial is great. I got it working with iGuidance, S&Trips 2006
and NetStumbler all at the same time.

They all work at the same time and I still wonder if a GPS w/SiRF might
be a better option with BlueTooth even thoug my laptop does not have
BT nor COM Ports only USB.

Although I know the one I want to get you can get data cable for USB
for about 80$/each.

Right now I am searching for a in-car laptop holder for under 100$. I have
an older HP laptop that my wifi card got screwed and at least I can load the
GPS and use it as my guidance system and not scan for WiFi unless I get a
WiFi / USB...

I think if you download the trial version or by Friday this week, you can get
20% off of GPSGate not sure if they do this after you enter you email and
d/l the trial version or what...

Thanks for the help and I will also check the other version out but I Think
that iGuidance is very good and might be better than nRouter. S&Trips 2006
is good at POI, and lakes and such. I also like the Netstumbler + StreetStumb
to import WiFi spots into S&Trips..
