Possible help for USB Earthmate and Routis/IGuidance
I read this over at gpspassion.com
"Perfect timing for this question!! In the past, iGuidance didn't work w/ Earthmate because it wasn't compatible w/ the USB-to-Serial bridge driver that came w/ Earthmate receivers (which is needed to map virtual USB com ports to native serial ports). However, according to Earthmate technicians, their newest driver resolves this problem. This driver is available for download from their website, http://www.delorme.com/support/gps/uemate005.asp"
Good luck!

Thanks for posting that. I dl'd and installed the new drivers. I can now run Routis and connect to the Earthmate without crashing my PC. However, I still have trouble receiving any satellites. Street Atlas will lock on in less than 30 sec, but Routis won't track any sats.

Same here. I tried all of the drivers new and old on 3 different computer...they all blue screened and rebooted. As soon as I start to find the Eartbmate both in Auto Detect and Manually it blue screens and reboots. I don't think this problem will ever be solved because Routis and Delorme keep pointing the finger at each other.

Well cross you finger and wait for Curiosity to update the Xport program with Hibernate problem. I try GPSgate but I don't like it because the computer did hibernate but not power down.

Call me lucky
I've updated my earthmate drivers and have been able to use routis flawlessly with my earthmate usb gps.
At first it didn't find my GPS, but when I went to "Device Manager" and checked out which com port it was in, I then went to routis and selected the corresponding com port and clicked auto-detect again. Worked like a charm! No blue screens, just perfect!
Using Windows XP with all updates.

Oh man, that's such good news. I wasn't even going to try it until I read that. I'll give it a shot today and let everyone know the results....
Whelp, didn't work for me. Actually now it just hangs at the "warning" splashscreen and won't even go into the software. I'm going to uninstall it and reinstall it and see if it helps.

When you first install the *driver* you gotta make sure you select the option where you are not going to use delorme steet atlas software and you are going to use a third-party software. Even though it says that its for serial, it does work for USB.
Like you said I would definitely reinstall routis and try to get it to recognize the GPS.
I haven't had any problems with routis trying to lock on to any GPS with my earthmate. Just as the same if I were to use Steet Atlas 2004.
Here is a link to make sure that you installed the drivers correctly!
http://www.delorme.com/support/earth...rdpartytrb.asp
Hope this helps!

If you go to Delorme site and purchase there serial cable you will never have problems again.. You won't be using any drivers at all... They make a serial cable for your Earthmate, which sends a standard NMEA signal to your machine... No hibernation, driver compatability issues again.. Nothing to install, just plug into serial port and set the com port... I paid like 25 bucks for the cable on there site and it works perfect with every GPS software on the market, that supports NMEA GPS receivers, which is all of them..

Nope. I reinstalled it and chose the appropriate com port, but alas, no device detected. The device is showing up in the com ports in device manager, and the drivers are loaded properly. (sigh)

well, lo and behold, I tried it again this morning and it worked. I didn't change anything, just rescanned, and it picked it up, works like a charm.

Well I updated the drivers on my computer with this new one (new one is named USBEMATE1.exe not the old USBEmate_v2.exe).
It worked! no blue screen when connecting to the com port while using Routis. Also, i locked onto sattelites insanely quick.
In case anyone still hasnt figured out how to install the Earthmate with serial drivers I'm going to explain here since the Delorme site leaves out a few steps:
1) Install driver using USBEmate1.exe ( http://www.delorme.com/support/gps/uemate005.asp). Select the second option that says you want to use it with non-Delorme software. EDIT: You may want to be sure and restart here
2) Plug in Earthmate. Wait for windows to detect it.
3) Go to Device Manager. The Earthmate should be under the 'Human Interface Devices' category. Right click on it and go to properties. (It should say delorme next to manufacturer: ).
4) Click on Driver tab and click update driver. Select the second option 'Install from a list'. Then select 'Dont search. I will choose driver to install'. Now select the second driver that is displayed. It should be titled Delorme Serial drivers or something close to that. Click next and 'continue anyway' button. Edit: Might need a restart here
5) Now open device manager and look under Com Ports to see which com port the earthmate was installed under.
6) Load your mapping software and select the appropriate com port and then Bam! now you mean business.
Let me know if that helps or if i need to clear anything up.

Holly $hit, it works. Thanks Mofo. Well I haven't try on my carPC yet, but it works on my desktop and it lock into 7 sats very fast and I am indoor. Well the receiver is on the window.
From MoFo instruction above, after installed the driver from Delorme, you have to restart the PC as requested by the installation software. That the only thing MoFo left out. COOLLLLLL.
[edit] Before follow MoFo instruction, I did try to install on my desktop but the PC keep reboot when selecting the COM port. The driver is the one I download couple weeks ago. I am not sure it is the same driver I down load today or not. So that is the different for me. [/edit]
