Found that on ebay, think it would be cool for my laptop based carputer.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=5703945370

what do you think?

would this device work good?
would this device work with major softwares?

Thanks for your inputs.

Exclamation Interesting

Interesting idea...that is if it works at all with other software CF card GPS...strange idea. Great for PDA's...but why for a laptop? Cripes, buy a USB GPS Mouse instead.

Of course if you don't have a CF reader on your PDA, you'll have to buy that also!

I have one USB port, 2 PCMCIA....

The seller emailed me - it is compatible with win98+ according you have a pcmcia slot.

Quote:
Require Mapping software (not provided). The GPS CF Card is compatible to software that supports NMEA 0183 V.2.2 protocol command and the following profiles: GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC, GLL, VTG.

I have no clue about protocoles and GPS software, can I use this with routis or mappoint or something??

Ahh, I have the same one. Works great - usually has a solid lock on 10 sattelites and cold start takes some 20 seconds to initiate. Very good device. But make sure you get the one with external antenna and a PCMCIA<>CF adapter if you want to use it with a laptop.

This device is compatible with all GPS softwares, like Routis, Destinator, etc. It's a standard NMEA0183 4800b complaint, it will work with anything.
I got mine from a guy in Hong Kong. It shipped faster than another item coming from Texas. The one you have there is in Singapore, so I say bid with confidence. The price is pretty good too.

Once again - this will work with any software and in any computer running any operating system. Keeps a solid lock on the sattelites and external antenna is easy to attach and hide. GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NMEA is good!

NMEA will be fine for most products, I know Microsoft Mappoint supports NMEA just fine.

PCMCIA<>CF slots are backwards compatible and plug & play. You will also be able to use that adapter to read/write CF cards. I have a camera using that and a Pocket PC so it's very useful.

Thanks guys.

I saw those have a general final price of about 100$ (US)...

I will try to get one for a relative cheap ebay price... there is one seller that have the same model from Canada (my country) I might save shipping cost and customs, as well as shipping delay.

I'll tell you guys ifever I manage to get one.

thanks a lot for the info.
