GPS Playback? Possible?

Alright, here's my idea, and if someone is willing to lead me in the right direction or if I missed something in my searches, or anyone has any ideas...

Alright, sort of like bread crumbs, but recorded, and then played back.

I drive around recording GPS output via hyperterminal, and then record it as a text file. Then play it back at a similar speed on a different machine via software simulating a GPS module. This way I can test GPS based software without having to drive around. I could just launch the fake GPS module, and my desktop would think its driving around town.

I can't do this over a wired connection, since the real GPS and computer is nearly permanently wired. Any way I can do this? A pre-packaged solution would be great, but anything help would be good too.

P.S. I don't want this to work like pushpins in Mappoint, that only helps with where I've been. I sort of want a "live" replay not just a listing.

Some (most?) gps programs can record and then playback gps info. I know you can do this for Street Atlas. I think though that each program is expecting the data for playback to be in that program's recorded format. I don't know of any that can read right from a text file built from hyperterminal.

I guess you could find out the file format of a programs' recorded data, and then translate the hyperterminal output into it.

Use Google. I believe there are a few packages out there that do it ... sorry I don't have the links handy. I was just looking at this a few days ago.

MatrixPC, this is exactly what I wanted. Thank you. Now, only if it were free.
