Map Point 2004

Hello, Just wondering if any one knows anywhere where I can get updated map files for mappoint 2004. I have searched on google but cannot find anywhere. I have updated traffic information, but I know for a fact a road goes further then stated on the map point map.... If there are no new maps, what software has better coverage?

MS doesn't release updates like hijinks said, not until a newer version comes out

Routis is using NavTech maps which seem to be the best.

also...I wouldn't trust MapPoint too much, in Colorado it likes to use the high country mountain passes as roads seen as the counties give them hwy numbers, however those passes are only accessible with 4x4

HaHa, I can see it now going on a road trip and having my poor little 2.2 blow up in the middle of no where, my hand brake doesn't work too well either. That sucks that they don't update maps, they update every other product. I suppose because its not a security risk / bugfix there is no need for them to fix it as they don't get any money from making updates for it. They should update it at the price of it tho.
I guess I will try to get Routis some time. Is it very simular to map point? I will keep my map point for net stumbling map out.

the issue is MS doesn't make the maps. They buy them from a 3rd party. Also it costs a lot of money to create these maps so thats why they just don't go around updating them every now and then. Also why there are no good free map sets. The company would have to send a driver to the road you are talking about to map it out and grab the GPS data themselves.. so if they don't know about that road.. then it might never get updated

Cool Nobody does that

No one updates maps of a "current version" of a mapping software. Garmin, Microsoft....no one. You just buy a new version, that's how they make the $$$$$$$$

I have found a couple of roads that have completely disapeared in mappoint 2004 but were present in 2002. the roads are definatly still there. guess not all updates go in the right direction.

its like mapquest.com all on your HD. i guess it wasnt really meant to be GPS software.

i mean 1) no voice 2) i cant move the damn screen away from the current location 3) i cant get directions from a GPS location 4) i can never tell which direction im heading until i actually drive a couple of seconds

mappoint was NEVER meant for incar nav. Its generally meant for plotting data and planning routes for companies or organizations.
