Help! Need to tranlate Latitude/Longitude

Hiya,

I've got to convert NMEA latitude/longitude into the folloing format (milliseconds?) but don't know how.

Here is an example lat/lon, first in the format it is supposed to be in, and then two normal examples of the lat/lon at roughly the same location (to a couple of metres or so)

Any ideas!!!!!!!! Please help?

UK, Birmingham, Nr J7a M42, Coleshill Heath Road

Latitude
-6154441

Longitude
188921104

latitude
54.4809 degrees

longitude
-1.7096 degrees

latitude
52:28:51N

Longitude
1:42:35W

It looks like the coordinates for the first set is in UTM (universal transverse mercator),
the second is decimal degrees,
and the third is degrees minutes seconds.

There isn't an exact conversion for degrees to UTM because UTM is based upon meters, and degrees are equal to different numbers of meters based on their distance from the equator.

Seems to be another 'zone' thing for UTM? Are you sure the top one is UTM?

That looks like what you need, your gps unit may also have a setting for UTM as well. Most of the UK is in zone 30, if you need that information for anything. UTM is broken up into zones (just in case)

It may be some sort of coordinates like the state plane here in the US, but I have no knowledge of any UK coordinate systems if they exist. I'm not sure, but if I had to make a bet, I's say it's UTM.

Found out how to use it.

the top one (the one I am trying to covert int) I mixed up the lat/lon somehow

I can get data from my GPS in the second one, and after multiplying it by 3.6 it turns into something very similar to the first one.

No idea why it's in that format though!
