After reading the email i got again it seems to me that it would be a free update, like a patch you might download.
I'll reply to the email and ask.

do you guys know if there'a way to put multiple stopover points on a route and the app will order them according to distance (overall shortest total path -travelling salesman problem-). I couldn't find it in 2004, or is it not available at all? What about guidance, does it have it ?

I had Routis 2004, went to install iGuidance 2.0, and it loaded Routis (because it thought I'd inserted the Routis CD)...
So.... The only reason to wait for Routis 2005 is if you already have 2004 and want to save some money on the upgrade. But if you don't own Routis, just go buy iGuidance. They're the same program, published by Netropa, called Intellinav. http://www.intellinav.com/
So, no question. Rush out and buy buy buy!

I think someone said something about an SDK coming out. (I think.) Maybe that will allow someone to take those maps and incorporate them...

For a second, I read that as, "Giving the gf a first test run today. taking the digital so I can snap some pics of it in action."
Let us know how it goes. I might buy iGuidance 2.0 instead of waiting for Deluo's Routis since everyone is saying it's going to be the same.

ohh, you can't see THOSE pictures. lol. unfortunately, at the girlfriends and left the camera at home. but here is my review:
equipment:
Delmore USB Earthmate with USB to Serial drivers
Dell Latitude 750mhz P3 w/ docking station
7" in dash touch screen
we started by going to the MVA for emissions testing, which I haven't done with my current car ever and it was a new location. you enter the street name first, then the address number or address number range. i had installed the state maps the night before of a 5 state area and wrote down directions from MapQuest for just in case. unfortunately, it didn't want the GPS at 9200 like all the other programs...it wanted it at 4800. so I unwillingly let what it wanted.
right away the female voice kicked in and told me to get on the road. once on the road, it gave directions right away. it highlighed the path in blue, and right before a turn, would give plenty of warning...the only thing was it was a few seconds slow on which side of the ramp to take that split with the voice...but it had the blue line for the right side. when comparing it to the MapQuest, it was already taking a different route...a very scenic route. little did i know by default it does the shortest route, not the major route (which you can select and I later did)
you can fiddle with 3 types of 3D views, which I found to all be annoying. it also automatically rotates the map to your point of view, which you can turn off to point true north all the time if you wish. at the top of the map it displays in the upper right your next turn type and distance to the turn. at the top, it displays the road of the next turn. then on the bottom, the current road you are on, and in the lower right the distance to your destination. then there are two windows on the right side: one with the directions (which update if you go off course) and a window with your coordinates, MPH, altitude, the actual NEMA GPS data, and number of satelites your GPS sees and strength
on the 7" screen, you really could not read the street names in its default zoom. but you can zoom in and out to get better detail...and updates the map every 2-3 seconds or so to center you.
just to REALLY test it out, we went past the road it told us to get on, and within 3-5 seconds gave another path. passed that road and it updated again. then to really mess with it, u-turned in the road. we laughed as it told us: "illegal u-turn" it was like "what, you are going to call the cops?" heh
we got to the MVA exactly right. it seems to start talking to do the turn not soon enough. like about a 3-5 seconds off. sometimes it was more then others.
then after the MVA, we needed to go to two different banks: Provident and M&T. using the built in place finder, we were able to tell it to find banks nearby, and select from a list of them a Provident. we got there with no problems. however, there were no M&T banks listed in the banks...there was Allfirst, which was the old name after M&T bought them out. we tried two different ones, which pulled up as duds. we did find one after the second try, a mile off from the second try.
next we went to columbia to a favoriate indian restraunt. typed in the address and address number, and directions right away. no problems except a few delays on turns. we also had played with the speed warning feature...it makes a ding when you go over the speed limit there! of course, i always go over, so I heard it everytime i stopped then had to accelerate. heh.
then after lunch, i tried the record feature to records the route, added the destiation to home, and added it as a favoriate. then we tried to use the business locator feature for shopping, and it only had malls listed.
overall, I was very happy with the software, except for the slight delays in the voice sometimes and the Allfirst/M&T issues. I am hoping v2.1 corrects the voice thing, but you adjust to it after a while. the software definitely reminds me of the Hertz Never lost you can get when you do a rental car from Hetrz.
the girlfriend got a few pics of the system in action. Shall post them up probably sunday night.

so you call it a "system"? my gf and i have a "system" going...wait i dumped her. ****. why did i do that?
just kidding man, but this sounds awesome. Can't wait to get it! i hope the delays fixed! i really don't need the locations/poi stuff as much so maybe it wont be an annoyance to me...and i switch lanes at the last minute anyways so hopefully i wont have a problem with the delay in the voices.
did you try this in 640x480 to see if you can read the street names better? i hope they arent too small at that res...

Well, I installed it using the USB CD player and all is well!!! The only annoyance that I have is using the zoom in/out you need to type on the touchscreen in the little tiny area. It would be good to have these zoom buttons available, but since I did not install it in the car yet, I can't really comment because it seems that it will automatically zoom when you get close to a turn.

btw, I just tried the 640x480 trick on routis, works wonderfully, the names are definitely more readable. But since I was using routis via MediaCar, I said let's change it to 640x480 as well, so I had to both run MediaCar under 640x480 and also had its skin resized to 640x480 via its setup page. if you haven't done it yet, give it a try. since routis has a fairly plain view, it doesn't hurt to change to 640x480.

I'll reply to the email and ask.
I got email over the weekend from iNav with two peices of interesting info.
First just as we all have been assuming, iGuidance and Routis are pretty much exactly the same software.
"And yes, iGuidance and Routis are identical software since we all source the software from the same place. The only difference will pretty much be just the company name, and maybe some POI icon symbol designs."
Second they are expecting to release a v2.1 in Aug and that release allong with all v2.x releases will be availible to those who bought v2.0 (v1.1 between 3/1/04-6/28/04) for $10 through the mail. No download.
"From what I've heard so far, v2.1 most likely won't be downloadable since it'll involve changes to the way certain state map data is extracted. Bad news for us too, because that means we'll have to reimaging new set of master CD, which is costly. :-( "
"Each version update (v2.X) is free w/ $10 shipping/handling fee and will be offered to everyone who bought v2.0 or v1.1 between 3/1/04-6/28/04 from our authorized reseller (secondary market sale by original iGuidance owner selling off their old versions won't be eligible). Customers who already submitted proofs of purchase documents to obtain v2.0 don't need to provide anything else other than the $10 (as in your case)."
