I think poeple here report too soon without even evaluating the software properly...its that excitement in seeing something pretty. Some dont even have anything to compare it with and so call it the best software they ever used.

Yes, it is all Hype. I remember hearing lots of things about routis, and when I finally try it I must say I was not impressed.

At first look the routis did looked good, I cant even test it as I dont live in US so I got no say.

Thats why I always believe in try before you buy policy in a software. I have bought many in the past and alot gave me dissapointments.

What else do you have that he doesn't?

You really wanna know?

not to boast but I do have almost all of them. Just like to collect them for some reason and then ask a mate to test it out for me. The latest one I tested just now is Route 66 Navigate 2004 on PDA...its ok but not impressive.

PC/PDA

Infomap Navigator UK
Route 66 2001/2002/2003/2004 Euro
Route 66 Navigate 2004 Euro
MapPoint 2004 Euro
Autoroute 2001/2002/2003 Euro
Mappoint 2004 Euro
Mapsonic 1.3 Euro
Alturion 5.2 Euro
Navigon 2004 Euro
Routis 2004 USA/Canada
Delorme USA

PDA :

TomTom Navigator 2/3 Euro
Destinator 2/3 Euro
Mapopolis Euro
Memorymap Euro
CoPilot Live UK
TomTom 2 USA
Destinator 2 USA

I got some other crappy ones not even worth mentioning...some I dont even remember that I had it The older versions are most likely gone. Some paid some not, I cant possibe afford to buy them all just to play with it for a day or 2.

And please dont ask me to send you a copy because I wont. I already have done that in the past with some members in here, free CDs, freepost and non was appreciated...I was only trying to help save peoples money, let them see if the software is worthy or not.

But if you want them youll find them somewhere if you look hard enough Dont ask me.

They cant be that crap, most are supposed to be "THE SOFTWARE" to buy. The thing is most do have the good points and the bad points...no one has put a perfect SW together yet.

To be honest I still find TomTom the best out of all of them and thats only for PDA. I hope they release one for PC with pretty graphics on it. Some do have impressive 3D graphics but bad voice, some are bad with reroute. I hope oneday someone wll come up with all the good bits from each one and put them altogether.

I didn't say all were crap just the ones that i havent tried. Keep in mind i am in the US and it would be pointless for me to get software that only supports UK.

Correct me if i am wrong but isn't tom tom just for the UK

I do...probably too often in the past, not so much now thats why I have the time to read the forum.

I just feel the need for the perfect GPS software...why? because Im bad at remembering roads...just the way I was born...sorry.

Being a field engineer in London in the past GPS navigation is part of my tools. Then we have this stupid thing called congestion charge, once you enter the zone by mistake a camera take a pic of the car. This £5 charge must be paid before 10pm as far as I remember. If not paid then that increase to £80 or so, then after that it increae to £120 about 205USD. I cant remember the exact figure now but I tell you it is a nasty thing. I avoid the area at all cost. Believe me its even a hassle to find a place to pay the £5 charge.

Thanks god TomTom 2/3 know how to avoid the congestion charge area

Not sure about 3 though.

EDIT :

The company is based in holland as far as I know. Infact most GPS software in europe are based in Holland.

I heard its not so good for USA. Destinator is better for US, but I dont like the way destinator handle the roads in UK.

I guess it was designed for certain type of roads. Destinator is too slow to reroute, that I find very frustrating. In most cases I have to stop and let it think for a moment. Its very easy to not follow whats its saying since theres many road work in London, blocked off road, road change, diversion...etc. So I cant follow it too well and always have to make a decision myself...and then hopefuly it will put me back in the right track.

I just traded in my Street atlas 2003 for a copy of Copilot Live 7. From what i heard and saw on their website. It has some great features. The lack of the 3d view is of no importance to me.. For $99 dollars for trade in vs $299 full i think its a deal.. i ordered a Holux Gm210 USB gps since i read it has one of the lowest lock times.
I used to have a pioneer navigation unit. The software they used was pretty good, and rerouting was quick. But the graphics were so/so. Ill let you know my findings.. I should get it soon since they are in Princeton NJ and i am about 30 min from there..

Please say it isn't so. Please say it isn't so....

Okay, the GPS mouse I have from Destinator 2 is Leadtek something. With USB.

But for some reason, it would not recognize it. I checked the device properties and it did show Leadtek USB-to-Serial (com 7).

Is it because this GPS is NMEA or SiRF??? (don't remember have to check)

That's what it shown in Destinator 2. NEMA or SiRF. (don't remember have to check)

But does iGuidance support both?

Maybe it's my memory stick. I shorted it a few days ago. 512MB now only reads 480 in windows. It was because of that stupid Ramsink spreader fell off.. I tried to remove it while the computer was running and I saw sparks. Next thing I know, I lost a few MB of rams.

Please say it's the memory and not the GPS. This GPS is excellent with Sat locks. And it's weatherproof too. I really don't want to remove it if I don't have to.

yah, go ahead and trash iGuidance 2.0. I still think its the best of the bunch out there for right now. it does EXACTLY what I want: turn by turn directions with voice navigation similar to the Hertz rental car "Neverlost" GPS system. My only beef with it is that it needs some sort of high traffic update system like MapPoint and more POIs for retail businesses.

Kandyman, I'm not bashing this product.

I need help to figure out what's wrong with my setup.

I'll review it once I'm able to operate it. I will not make any comments otherwise.

Please, if someone, anyone know what's wrong with my setup, please do say...

I thought this forum is for helping others too... It beginning to look like a show-off site than to help the needy.

You are probably right. Ill help you if I know the answer.

I dont have Iguidance 2.0 so theres not much I can say.

However Ill help you test the GPS.

Open hyperterminal set to COM7 (wherever your GPS is connected to)

If the GPS is standard then set the hyperterminal to 4800,8,N,1.

If you can atleast see some NMEA sentences then your GPS seems to be working fine.

You should see something like :

eg1. $GPRMC,081836,A,3751.65,S,14507.36,E,000.0,360.0,1 30998,011.3,E*62
eg2. $GPRMC,225446,A,4916.45,N,12311.12,W,000.5,054.7,1 91194,020.3,E*68

If you cant see anything like it then the setting may be wrong, check the GPS manual to verify if its NMEA or SIRF and what baud rate it outputs at.

Hope that help anyway.

wow, Thanks Ricky.

I just have 2 comments that I need to specified. The GPS does seems to work as it is working in Destinator 2.

Second. Is there a difference between NMEA and SIRF? are they not compatiable with each other? Which one does IGUIDANCE support?

Well it looks like 4 questions instead of 2. I know you don't have IGuidance, so I guess you can't answer the second then. But thanks for replying to my post.
