Triggering events based on GPS location

I am in the process of building my car pc, and I would like to include GPS navigation using one of the better software packages out there. However, I also would like to run a certain exe or macro whenever I am within a short distance from my house, while getting close.

The only way to do this would be by looking at the GPS data and see where I am and see if I am leaving or approaching the house. Is this something some GPS software can do already? If not, would I be forced to chose between GPS nav and that functionality (I will write my own software) or can most GPS units be shared between the several software packages running? Thanks!

I would imagine, if you can program, which I can not, that you could take the data stream from the GPS and have it trigger events based on location etc. I don't think it would be all that hard.

I think the issue is that if you are using the GPS data for your own little app, then u can't use it for traditional GPS apps

I'm sure it'll be pretty simple to get something like this into AIMEE

Have a look at EvetS, google 'EvetS' and 'Speedcam'. IIRC This is a VB based program that triggers a sequence of Wav files when approaching a GATSO camera's GPS location... Maybe you could use this in some way, add your house as the only GPS location in a database and have it run a batch program or something...

The guy who wrote this app is known as Goto10 on this forum... He maybe able to help you.

A port splitter like GPSGate can create multiple virtual ports that can each feed a NMEA data stream to separate apps. I've already had MapPoint, Routis and my own little GPS app running at the same time.
