Any recommendation for my setup?

What units can be used with an external antenna? I have a 2003 Tahoe that had Onstar in it. I'd like to get a GPS unit that I can hide somewhere inside the dash and hook to the Onstar antenna. I had the Onstar unit from a 2002 Tahoe that I tried to solder a RS-232 level converter onto, but I suck at soldering and messed it up.

So, any recommendations on a unit I can hook to my external antenna and bury in the dash?

Thanks

Several of us have our receivers in the dash with no external antenna, and they work just fine.

Have you tried using a receiver without the antenna? Should work just fine without.

I don't have any GPS receiver yet, but don't they all need to be on the dash or somewhere like that? I want to be able to hide the receiver in the dash. That is the main reason I was inquiring about a receiver that can hook to an external antenna.

Why not use the OnStar GPS unit itself?

The 2003 Onstar unit has not been hacked yet. I had the Onstar unit from a 2002 Tahoe that I tried to solder a RS-232 level converter onto, but I suck at soldering and messed it up.

For those of you that already have your receivers in the dash, what kind of receiver do you use?

I use the cheap BU-303. Works fine. Anything will work in the dash practically.
