Delorme TOPO !!!! man this is good !!!

I just installed Delorme TOPO USA 4.

It's a Topographical GPS application that can show multiple screens and 3D views. It shows shading and moutains... really cool stuff!!

I have Destinator 3.1.1 and Routis as well, but this topo stuff looks WAY better. It has a feature for directions, but no "Talking" guide along the way. This would have been great when I was off-roading years back.

It's a big app, 7 cds in all CD1 - Install CD-7 Pacific west.

worth a look...

i have 5.0 cool stuff. The accuracy for me is not all that great. Im still not ON the road. 5.0 you get some free satalite imagry but you can also buy as much as you want. Its not real time but still looks pretty cool.

like make it show the roads over the topo so you see where the roads are. or is that not possible. casue to have 3d road maps like that would be awesome.

Oh yeah, it does it..

It looks like a destinator type map.
I have it set up for a 2D above view on the right and a 3D 20 degree view on the left...
so you don't have to import any type of map. They are in there...

I too use this software. I am big into trout fishing and it is the sole reason I pursued creating a carputer. With a carputer and this software I am able to seek out wilderness streams and more importantly, get to them. I was previously using a handheld GPS but navigating a non-color handheld screen and driving was not easy. The fact of being able to see trails is invaluable when off-roading which I am presented with often.

The downside of the software though is that it is not real friendly for touchscreens. Try to be on the road and enter an address to get directions. With a touchscreen, you will have to pull over. I know this is the "proper" way to operate our carputers but let's be real. This is why I also run iGuidance. With these two pieces of software, I can do day to day navigation but on the weekends when I become trout hunter I fire up the topo and find obscure seclusion and get to hammer trout that seldom if ever have seen man.
