The reason I asked is cause iGuidance only supports NMEA, however I loved the reception of SiRF mode.

So isn't there some type of software out there that actls like a converter and change SiRF signal to NMEA.

So the GPS software just point to the converter software instead of the actual GPS device.

How did you do it? When I changed the GPS to SiRF mode, it refused to detect the device. I know it works cause Destinator 2 detects it perfectly. I switched it to NMEA, Destinator 2 refused to detect it and iGuidance would detected it.

IN SiRF mode, i'm using the baud rate of 192000.
IN NMEA mode, i'm only using 4800.

If you can tell me how you're able to get iGuidance work in SiRF mode, that would be great.

I don't know what you're smoking, but iGuidance only works in NMEA mode.

I would be interested in using a sirf-nmea converter (software) to perhaps get D3 frontend in advanced mode while not losing the sirf configuration for map updates and all...

from what I understood you can have 1 port set in the advanced settings (must b NMEA), and another set in regular gps settings (this would stay sirf cause of better rec)

I used the Sirfdemo program to change to sirf. Then i installed iguidance. Is it possible that it somehow got changed back to NMEA? I pull up streets and trips and it still shows the gps in Sirf. I have the streets and trips GPS mouse and i'm pretty sure i'm not back in NMEA mode on iguidance cause i lost signal all the time in that mode.

when you pull up the GPS info.. does it say NMEA on it? does the data that flows through have something like &GPS something on it? If it does, that's NMEA language. I think SiRF is in binary. Not sure if S&A uses NMEA or SiRF. But everywhere I looked on the web, all indications said iGuidance is only compatible with NMEA.

Exactly. There must be a way to do this. Why didn't anyone create a program that converts it and output it to a virtual COM port. Is it really that difficult to translate these two protocols so they can speak to each other?

I thought the data only tells you what bird is out there, LONG and LAT.

there is a bit more than that i think... time, no. of satellites, etc... but it shouldnt be difficult

Actually, SiRF is a nightmare to work with compared to NMEA. You don't get long/lat, you have X/Y/Z coordinates, and it's a lot of messy tedious work to convert it.

That's why sirf isn't supported in the D3 frontend yet, I simply don't have the time!
