I think he's talking about the D3 front end, not necessaryially the D3 software package....
however, I did see another thread on here where someone was hosting the European maps for d3 for download for anyone on here....I believe it was in this forum....or was it in the software forum....

Yeah, I have been reading many of the posts here about GPS software, cause I need to buy one.... MS Streets and Trips (2001) just doesn't cut it.... I have seen that the concensus is iGuidence and Desinator3 are pretty close in "best"... each having there own advantages....
Now what confuses me is what is Ninja Monkee's software???
I get the impression it is a control method for D3 and requires a full version of D3, right?
What does it add? I havn't seen a single screen shot of it, which seems strange..... Am I just not looking hard enough???
Any thoughts would be most appreciated....

As far as I can tell D3 was only written for a PDA and would therefore not work very well/easily on a pc. Ninja Monkey has written a pc front end so that the up to date data and maps can be used. His frontend is free, you can get free maps, but if you want the most recnet maps and to be legal then you need to buy D3 as well.

I believe NM's frontend comes with a very small portion of some random map in some european country (either that or my geography is just that bad).
It may not be useable for most of us, but still, you'll get an idea of what the frontend looks like it... I think that's what they were referring to as free.

Now what's this about free maps? I'd like to try the free maps and if i decide that it's what I want I'll go ahead and buy it so I can have the newest maps and support the development of newer maps!

Those of you in europe can use maps from a manufacturer called MIO who make them available to download for free. (See the download links thread on the D3 forum).
People have noted that they are quite limited in POI's and road names compared to the official D3 ones, so are best used just for testing before you buy.
It's not as easy for the US maps. I think the best way is to actually order a trial CD (around $15 I believe)
