Destinator or IGuidance

I did a search but I couldn't find anyone comparing these two to each other.

I really like the looks of Destinator from the little flash preview they have of it, but I'm not going to place too much value on that. I have the Delorme POS software and the reciever, and I found a very helpful thread on here about how to use the USB piece from Delorme with thirdparty software....

but if you were to pick, which would you go with? Destinator or IGuidance? Any why? let me know if you have experience with only one of them or with both. Thanks!

I don't like destinator because:
1) It display wrong street number in NY map.
2) You need to switch US map between regions.

I like Iguidance but i havent tried Ninja Monkeys version of Destinator 3. It seems that they overcame the map switcheing (although i cannot verify this) but i can't tell you anything about how the actual street address acuracy is. I am keeping an eye out for copilot 8. I like Iguidance 2 becasue it loads up quick and is sufficiant and is integrated into frodoplayer

I have iGuidance 2.0 and love it. I've also tried Ninja Monkey's D3 front end and that's really good as well. Destinator maps don't show the street names in 3d view which to me is a big problem. It may not be for you. Regardless of which one you choose you'll be getting a great piece of software for GPS.

to get around the map switching, you need to buy Destinator: Major Roads US.

That costs another $40-50. I haven't used it, but that's what the product description says.

In my opinion, iguidance is a great piece of software if you could only make it more touch screen friendly. A lot of those buttons are TINY! Still, for the price, it's damn good.

1) is this just a NY thing or have other people experienced this?
2) being that I live in Texas....it is it's own region because it's so big....I don't travel much (if any) outside of Texas (especially since it takes 9 hours just to get halfway through the state), so the region thing isn't that big of a deal

thanks for the input!

That's the problem I have with the Delorme software, absolutely NOT touchscreen friendly.

It sounds like most people prefer iguidance....I'll keep my eyes on it!

I have both of them, here's what i an input.

Igudance 2:

Pro: Nicer GUI, 3D map showa street names.
Con: Non really. Maybe ther could be more POI's

Destinator 3( Ninja monkey edition)

Pro: Highly categorised POI, i realy love it. I think it's more accuratre than iguidance, maybe it depends on the rikaline 6010 though. I used Iguidance with delorme Earthmate.
Con: It has a somewhat akward looking GUI. No offence NM, but the graphics in Igudance are better.

So there you go. If you want a "nice" software that looks really clost to stock, get iguidance. If you want more functionality, go with sdestinator.

Which skin are you referring to as awkward? Never heard that before

I'm sure the guys who developed iGuidance had their very own graphics design team, I'm a coder - not an artist!

thanks BND! So now I am left with a few thinigs to pick between...do I want something that's more accurate and no so easy to use? (so it might not be as accurate in the end) or do I want something that's easier to use and not as accurate...lol

decisions decisions

I prefer the Ninja D3/CDRSkull skin combination over Iguidance for handling touchscreen input-I think Iguidance buttons are too small. I've read you can change the size/apperance of Iguidance buttons using resouce hacker, but haven't tried it myself. Destinator 3 map info is newer (Quarter 1, 2004) verses Iguidance (Quarter 3, 2003). The voice navigation in Iguidance is a little more thorough-it will tell you which side of the street your final destination is on and gives you a little more detail when navigating freeway entrances/exits. I don't think that you can go wrong with either-but if you do go with Destinator you have Ninja Monkey who is actively developing his program specifically for in car use-Thanks Ninja!

Yeah, I'm trying to design the D3 Frontend specifically for in-car use...why don't you try it out before buying the maps? It's free!

It's in a constant state of development so i'm always looking to add new features and integrate with other applications wherever necessary. Fun stuff
