rikaline 6010 Locks up/reboots machine

When I use the rikaline gps, I get 10-20 minutes worth of readings, then the machine simply locks up hard. This is using iguidance.

This is:

epia MII120000
Opus 90w
Active usb extension cable to the rikaline
WInXP
Etc

I updated the usb to serial driver and that improved the overall performance, but i'm still getting lockups..

Any ideas?

The problem is similiar to another thread i found, but his solution was to get a serial gps..

Maybe the USB to Serial driver doesn't like Iguidance/Routis or the other way around?
At one point we (Earthmate users) had problem with the driver as well and there was no way for us to get Earthmate to work with Routis. When the Software(Routis) connect to the COM port, the PC either died hard, reboot, or BSOD. The driver was fine with other software.
The solution at the time is COM port forwarding.

So your problem could also be the driver. While waiting for the manufacturer release the new driver, why don't you try the COM port forwarding solution?
-Xport and Compass (search the forum) work great and free.
-GpsGate somewhat okay but not free.
there are some other, but the above 2 are one that I try.

For the new drivers:

http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/...brw_result.asp
Search for: PL-2303 USB to Serial Bridge Controller for the driver

I think it might have simply been an overheating problem but I'm not entirely sure..

I'll try out the com port forwarding stuff if it happens again (I did a complete ventilation overhaul but haven't given the whole setup a shakedown just yet)..

hello, I've also just got a rikaline gps, and had exact same problem, locking up and blue screens.

The solution to my problem:
Change assigned com port.

Device manager --> ports com & lpt --> prolific USB-to Serial Comm port (commX)
Double click -- > port settings --> advanced --> and select a different com port.. anything above 4 works fine for me even tho other ports are not in use.

also download latest drivers from http://www.rikaline-uk.co.uk/rikaline_downloads.htm

Mick.
