GPS Software in South Africa
Hi there everyone,
My GPS mouse that I ordered has just come in from cartft.com... My only problem is that I did not check to see if there was any GPS software available for South Africa, and I am having a really hard time finding any.
Anyone out there know of some software I could use and where I might be able to get my hands on a copy.
Much appreciated!
Kenneth

Howzit man,
Thanks loads for the links! I really appreciate it.
Which would you recommend? Is the Map Studio one, the "RoutePlanner PC CD-Rom" they have on the site?
Also where would I be able to buy a copy of Handy Map? And what is my third option?
I'm from Ferndale, Johannesburg. Where you from?

Hiya
I have the handymap option ZAR 699 (I think) on there website or collect from there office in PTA, or ZAR 999 from the good guys chain of stores, (Eastgate has a branch) it is a very nice app, the map studio one is double the price and I dont think has double the features...
The other option is from Garmin, but you need to buy there GPS and the bundled software with it, costs a few thousand at least and not as intuitive to use as handymap.
I am in Edenglen, Eastern side of JNB
there are a few other lurkers here, see my thread in "get togethers" lets get together (and invite Muldrick as well)

Great! Thanks very much for your help. I was beginning to worry that there was no solution in SA.
Thanks again, I'll let you know when my installation is complete.

Ditto! SA awakes. I am in Durban, I had a complete PC in my 4x4 before I donated the whole car to the previously disadvantaged.
So I am busy putting together the next one, and GPS is a priority. Anyone know if it is possible to put other maps into a routeplanner. Cause I have the VEZA routeplanner, which is a vector based map of the country, I just need to add GPS functionality.

LOL @ Previously disadvantaged, i donated 2 cars so far to them, but i plan on making this one as hard as possible to "donate".
My MX6 is of the road for now as an idiot drove into me.
He claims that he didnt see this big white MX6 STOPPED in traffic in front of him

Got it done.
By the way, got my carpc running. Its in my BMW, it has GPS, currently using garmin nroute. I would like something that integrates into one of the front ends, so the search continues.

If you looking for proper psu's with shutdown controllers etc, there isn't anyone yet. If you looking for a normal dc-dc converter, you can try A1 radio in durban, or even Autostyle.co.za.

I am bringing in a few lilliput screens in at a time direct from China. Otherwise, I've imported from around the world...
As far as FE, I have been using RoadRunner, but I have just been trying Centrafuse, and I must say it is the best thought out FE I have tried. Tried StreetDeck, but its too resource hungry.
