Has anyone tried fitting the GPS mouse under the small fibreglass enclosure above the rear door, that houses the rear brake light?

No, but if you have enough room for it there it should be fine. Just make sure it doesn't get too close to the brake light if it's an actual bulb because they heat up quick. If LED's, no problem. If it's a rear hatch door that you're talking about, I'd mount it securely with some kind of shock absorbsion like some foam to protect if from when the door slams shut.

i've got the spoiler, so i don't have the enclosure you're talking about. not sure if it would be a good place though. my experience is that the receiver needs to directly see the sky. I tried placing mine inside my dash, way up in front, and it could rarely get a signal. when i moved it outside of my dash, it worked fine... and i think that was just plastic blocking it, so the metal from your car might be worse.

worth a try though.

if it is only fiberglass, it should be good.. heck, just try it, never hurts.

Also I'd suggest sticking a napkin or something into that area if you're not sure whether it's waterproof or not. That way, right after a rainy day, you can see if it's wet at all. It probably is waterproof, since it houses electronics, but I don't know your car at all.

i know that housing he's talking about. it would actually be a pretty good place to put one, but i would recommend either removing the light bulb or replacing it with an LED because of the heat. i would also suggest making a new foam rubber gasket to go between the housing and the top of the rear roof, and another one for the red part of the lens. you don't have to worry about vibration from slamming the door - potholes and speedbumps make just as much if not more vibrations.

only thing you need to be careful of is water, and then sealing where the wires go into the body. you ought to be able to snake the wires through where the factory brake light wires are. it may help to lower the rear part of the head liner to do it.

roleary - he's got a 95, not an 05 - two whole body styles away from yours.

if i'm remembering right, his high mount brake light is mounted in a sort of fiberglass "bubble" on top of the rear roof. his back door is not a hatch like yours - it's got a rear window that rolls down, but the rear glass rolls down into a tailgate that opens just like a regular pickup truck.

Gibson99 your right, it is a small fibreglass pod above the power rear window, I'll try removing the high level brake light and sealing up the opening to fasten a wireless antenna in its place for the network card.

hey all,

im in Oz and have a 1994 hilux surf (which to anyone from USA is a 4runner).

I have a rear spoiler fitted on my vehicle, which has a row of LED's for the brake light, and i thought about mounting my bu303 in there, but then, it cant see the sky (key factor)...

just a thought, i can post some pics if necessary to better clarify what im talking about... that, and the bu303 responds better if it is sitting on a magnetic surface (metal) which is scarce in the rear spoiler, as its made of fibreglass/plastic stuff....

Works like a dream, constant 9 or 10 sat lock, good accuracy and plenty of room under the small pod. When I figure out how to post pics I will show you.

Pod has rubber seal around base and large grommet big enough to fit usb plug through into abs plastic cover behind, cable will run along plastic surround to position behind sub box for hub.

hwo do you pop the pod off? do you just pry it up or are their screws in teh inside of the car?? ill have to try mounting mine their.

The plastic speaker mount inside the boot of the 4runner above the door pops off, it has mountings like a door panel, then two bolts from the pod come throught the roof, undo the two nuts and the pod lifts up, you may need to loosen the brake lightcable to give enough slack.

ok ill give it a try tomarrow, yea i knwo how that pops off in the rear. i have to rewire the entier car this week so im taking all trim off hehe... gona be funn.

just wanted to ask a dumb question, but seeing as we share the same vehicle, why does XM radio ONLY work in the USA when it is transmitted via sats? is it because they only transfer when over the USA?
