Probably because version 1 came out in 2003. You say 'copyright 2003-2004' the way that Norton Utilities is copyright '1984-2005' or something.

Well, you're in luck, I still have my box on the shelf.

Okay.. First, the CD does not say what version it is.. (which is kinda stupid)
The CDs (there's 2) are blue.
around the CD, copyright is 2003-2004
Includes boths Laptop and Pocket PC versions.

Now for the box.
The only thing that says version 2.0 is a BIG oval sticker on the cardboard box. YES it's a BIG oval orange sticker that says:

Version 2.0
Faster Route Calculation
Enhanced 3D View/Geo-Feature (Land/Water)
Expanded & Subcategorized POI's
Destination by City Center
Full Screen Mode
Hot Keys

No where else on the box indicate the version number. And I do not know what's underneath the sticker.

On the bottom back of the box, I only see (c)2003
didn't say (c)2003-2004

Hope that helps.

^^^ thanks man. If only you were 5 hours faster, lol.

Seriosuly though, thanks. Was the orange sticker on the outside of the box, or was it on the inner cardboard that holds the cd case?

lol.. I don't remember if there's any shrinkwrap on this thing. But it's visible when I hold the box in front of me. Don't remember what's inside the box other than the CDs. I don't think it even came with a manual.
