NMEA ACTIVEX control ---free if possible
anyoen know of a good, free, NMEA string reading ActiveX control that i could access with visual basic 6?

You generally only need to interpret a few of the different NMEA strings to do navigation and parsing them is fairly trivial once you know what they mean. I would recommend you take a look at http://pcptpp030.psychologie.uni-reg...arch/NMEA0183/ and the link to sam blackburn's NMEA library in C++ on there.

thanks, i'll try it, looks limited in what it parses, i need to be able to parse strings that an aneomometer may put out.

Any idea why i'm getting useless data from my GPS, it is working fine in other applications, and i double checked my gps unit to make sure its set to NMEA 4800 bps

it's got to be that active x control...
I dont know why you need an active x control to parse the string... write the code yourself it'll take a few minutes that way you know what your dealing with...

NMEA data is so easy to parse, it's almost easier to write your own algorithm then it is to try and use someone elses control.

Quick question about parsing data: can you get a smooth update of a digital speedometer using GPS speed?
