Destinator gives the WORST directions
I just installed my new carputer system and I went from CoPilot 7 to trying out Destinator in Centrafuse
I really like the voice guidance (excellent voice, best Ive heard)
The graphics are decent
The different views are cool
The update frequency is good
but....
THE DIRECTIONS ARE AWFUL!
It cant seem to calculate simple routes and at one time it said that I was still on a freeway when I wasnt. On the same route it also had me getting off the freeway, driving about 5 miles then getting back on the same damn freeway! Also, it routed me along some backroads place instead of getting me to a freeway.
Compared to copilot, the directions are awful
Is this something everyone experienced or am I just not the norm?

I think it might be something to do with the US maps because I have the same problem with it. I also heard someone else on here from the US complaining about the same problem.

Yes, destinator is terrible with routing in the US. Shortest is just a nightmare, and Quickest (as yunusyu recommends) is hillarious. I still don't know how making me drive an additional 3 miles in the wrong way to a side street ever makes it a quicker route.

I am looking for houses to buy and was testing out CF1.20 and my god the directions are horrible. It doesn't matter if it is on the quicest or shortest route.
The voice told me to turn right when the on screen visual was indicating a left turn, friggen crazy stupid.
In all iGuidance is the best for routing and directions.
I was quite dissapointed.

I got destinator going Friday - its horrible compared to iGuidance. Map Monkey gives it a decent interface, but destinator ruins it with bad directions and slow updates.

I have the same trouble with the getting off the highway and back on and such. The quickest or shortest route seems to do a whole lot! Yeah.. a whole lot of NOTHING! I wish it was easier to avoid a road too! I mean you should be able to plan a route then click the directions, select a road and hit a button that says avoid this road. That way when it asks you to get off, you can just say NO F U I want to stay on Bi otch

I would have to agree with the comments here.
I am based in the UK and have tried out Destinator extensively - while having my PDA running Tom Tom 3 on at the same time.
Tom Tom 3 is software that I trust - it has worked great many times and produces contantly good routes. The routes produced are similar to AutoRoute.
Destinator on the otherhand produces routes that are utter rubbish compared to Tom Tom or Auto Route.
Thanks to Map Monkey the software looks fantastic and just because of the interface I wish I could use it - but the route produced are too bad for me to have any confidence in its ability. I have changed Quickest-Shortest Routes settings to no avail.

I am glad everyone took the time to post there comments because I have been eyeing up destonator and especially after map monkey for a while now but it I think I am going to have to go with funcionality (iguidance) over great look
(map monkey). It really is a shame.
but if 3d maps get intergraded to destinator my decision is easy

Haha,
Destinator is a pile of crap, it had been mentioned so many times. Use it on a very dense city like london, miss a turn and it takes forever to reroute, miss a turn again and still rerouting. Eventually you end up going around the circle while destinator is forever rerouting. The only way is to stop the car and sit there for like 10mins before it can decide where you should be heading next. Its not always easy to stop in some area in london, its annoying taking that long. Look like its rerouting the whole route rather than the small area where the drivers made a mistake, road closed, no entry, etc.
TomTom, I have used it alot and its always good. Very quick to decide what to do next when you miss a turn. The route is very good in most cases.
I went from london to birmingham 2 days ago. There are some new roads around the M6 toll. Once I got on that road Tomtom goes nuts. It seems to ask me to go around and around. I realised its not the softwares fault but the maps not being updated by the provider.
TomTom do cheat a little, it snaps the GPS position into the nearest road. If theres a road running parallel to where the car is currently on and the GPS drifts to the another road, TomTom will then snap on that road and cause a reroute. It does happen when the GPS lost its accuracy for whatever reason.

Have to disagree on the rerouting bit ol' bean.
I live in London and have found that when I don't follow the route it is very quick to reroute and usually it is a sensible turn at the next corner.
My friend has a garmin street pilot, when he used that not only did it about 5 mins to calculate the initial route when we went off it's route and it had to recalculate it took forever. Whereas on destinator it's a matter of seconds.
I do find it has strange routes sometimes, but in most cases it seems to find the most direct, but I have to amend to allow for traffic conditions which I am aware of.

Opps sorry, I was talking about the PDA version, both version 3
How long was the total route in destinator? 1 mile or 500 miles?

Isn't the idea that you follow the instructions so that you DON'T miss a turn?

Destinator also uses the "snap to map".
I use Destinator all the time and have found it to give good directions and be very quick to route and re-route.

I've done many different routes from 8 miles to 200 miles and lots more in between.
