Question Deluo GPS antenna modification help

Can anyone point me to a tutorial on how to add an external antenna hookup to my GPS reciever. I plan on getting an external tri band antenna and will want to hook up my Deluo GPS module to it. Unfortuantly they don't have antenna hookups

I am very comfortable with a soldering iron and fabrication/electronics.

I just want to see some pictures of a mod before i get started.

If anyone has passed by such a tutorial please pass the info along my way.

Thanks

I have got a old unit from them its a serial port type

I had problems getting a lock in my car - I kept moving it around
and no luck - I thought about that it had a magnet, and got a flat
piece of metal - I stuck the GPS unit on top and BAM I got 4 to 6
sats locked

I have it mounted under my rear window as close to the glass
as I can - its under the carpet on my rear shelf mounted to a
square piece of metal - the metal is about 5 inches square

If you can some how replace the antenna you could try this but
its ugly

Good luck

yes take some pictures, i'm sure we can sort out what needs what. I attached a external antenna to my radioshack GPS that was not designed for an external antenna and it worked great.

so maybe just get a piece of coaxial cable with a fme connector on that and solder the other end to your gps, that would keep the amount of connections low

The "square" in the middle of the unit on your picture is the actual antenna, but I'm thinking if perhaps the use of a re-radiating antenna would do the job for you. You wouldn't have to modify your existing GPS receiver in any way. Check this link: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/semsons-inc/gpsreran.html
