HUH? Are we talking about S&T 2007? If so, you are wrong. You can recalculate the directions from your current position anytime by pressing the big GO button or pressing F3. And as far as locking onto satellites, cripe, I use a BU353 usb sirf III gps and I routinely get over 10. Heck, I get 3-4 in my garage and I have a metal roof.
Yes, S&T 2007 is not touch screen friendly for the most part because of the little areas you have to touch and you obviously can't use a stylus when driving but map the keys with a device like the Shuttle Pro, which I use, and don't need the touch screen anyways.
One thing S&T does (and MapPoint), is allow you to QUICKLY reroute the route the way YOU want to by being able to right click anywhere and add to route and then when you get all the points you want, you just hit the Get Directions button and you have easily and quickly created your own route. I love that capability and use it all the time and have used it recently in an emergency.
So far, I have found it very reliable and easy to use. In fact, my mother got lost yesterday traveling from the Keys to NY using TomTom (piece of crap...try creating a custom route on that!) so I faxed here a detailed directions page created by S&T 2007 and she's on her way home at this moment without incident. When I say custom route, let me give you a quick example. When I go to the Keys, I like to take Rt 81 South to Rt 66 then Rt 17 then I95 etc., but whenever you use TomTom or even S&T, it tells you the best route and it's never the one I want so I just look at the map and visually pick out points to 'force' it to go the way I want. It's very easy and a great feature.
Just my $0.02....
