trying out software
Now don't flame me for being a pirate or anything, but I doubt any of us want to blow 100 or 200 dollars on a gps nav software package that ends up not being any good.
I'm settled right now on buying iGuidance 2 , but I use routis 2004 .
I own streets and trips 2005
I'd love to try copilot 8 ..
here's what I'm getting at there has to be a way we could setup a "library " style GPS software checkout system or something.. so you can try out a title and see if you want it THEN buy it..
p2p networks are great except you can't find all the title like copilot 8 .. (at least I can't) I'm all for forking over the money on a good system.. but only for one that fits my needs best.. and I already did once..
anyone have any ideas?..
I tried street atlas too, that's for sucks also.

Just read as the rest of us do, see what others say then decide which to use.

well some swear by Destinator, others copilot, others iGuidance, others routis.
how am I to decide?..
I thought streets and trips was sweet till I tried Routis.. you never know a program, how it routes, speed of it.. etc till you use it..
it's all I'm saying

I appretiate the advice ..
but, I hear so many times how people buy software x and don't like it.. to each his/her own .. I guess I'm the type that likes the 24hr test drive when I buy a car..
particulary I'm torn on destinatror.. it has great intergration potentional for CF but I Hear the directions stink.. but from others they say it's great.. to me the only way to find out is to a) buy it for $100 or b) try it out via some P2P network (none avaliable that I could find) and then buy it if it's worth it..

I am in exactly the same position as you. I have a usb receiver but choosing "the best" software is so subjective that anyone elses opinion is not going to help me at all. I know I hate the earthmate reciever and the software that it came with. I want something just like what the Kenwood or Pioneer dvd gps units run for their indash headunits. I don't want 100 tiny buttons on the screen. I want easy to navigate menus that are set up for touchscreen. I have mapopolis for my pda, which is ok, but it is like apple2e or commodore64 looking software and I want something that is better for my car pc.

Supposedly copilot has a "try before you buy" program, for 30 days I think?
I'm not sure, check it out though if you really want to try it.

There is nothing wrong with trying out GPS programs before you buy them, as long as you actually buy them. I downloaded like 10 diff ones before i finaly bought mappoint. Mappoint is the only GPS software with PUERTO RICO maps, that i found. ANyways happy hunting
