Rikaline 6010 Mode changing problem

ok, something weird is happening... after i havent powered up my carputer for a couple weeks, i finally power it on, to see that my GPS no longer works. why? it turns out all the settings stored on the gps mouse have been wiped out and returned to default... aparently theres some sort of battery that keeps the seettings but when it dies, everything is gone. strangely, i go back into the winfast utility to try to set it on SIRF... but no luck there... then i try SIRFdemo.. when i try changiing it to SIRF.. i lose connection to the gps, however the gps does not go into SIRF mode. It remains in NMEA 4800baud..

my virtual com port setting is com 3.. at 38400baud which is what it was before when it was working.

is there a command i can use to put it in SIRF mode again?

would this work? basically i found that but it was written for 9800 baud. so i just changed it to 38400.. i dont know what it meant by the checksum equations and whatnot something about 8bit and hexadecimal. and its in the last part of the command string.

By changeing the value from 9800 to 38400 it causes the checksum to change. From http://www.d-media.com.tw/english/3p...er/SDGPS-l.pdf it looks as if the checksum should be 3D instead of 0C for 38400.

I have heard that sometimes the recievers don't like to switch protocols and baud rate at the same time, so switching first to 38400 NMEA (i think that is what you are trying to do) and then sirf seems like a good way to go.

Another suggestion i saw elsewhere (can't figure out where now) when the battery ran out was to use GPSViewer to force a cold start. Of course that had more to do with picking up satalites, but i figure it couldn't hur to try.

would i put in

$PSRF100,1,38400,8,1,0*3D

to change to NMEA 38400.

then

$PSRF100,0,38400,8,1,0*3D <~ does the checksum stay the same here? even when i changed the "1" to a "0" for changing modes.

to change to SIRF?

Changing anything is going to change the checksum. The checksum is used to determine if the device recieved the sentence correctly, that is nothing changed in transit and that it recieved it correctly. If the checksum is off the device will likely just ignore the command. There is a little blurb here That explains how the checksum is generated and also has some example code.

There is also a way to disable the checksum check, i think somehow in sirf demo you can, don't remember off the top of my head. It would should make it easier to manually send sentences to the device. Also once you get it set to 38400 NMEA you may be able to then use sirfdemo to switch to sirf.
