I think it only records not plays back but I am in work so can't play with it.

Looks like a nice program to me if you just want to see your position. If you want to test out a GPS receiver at faster speeds I'll modify mine to do it.

cool. I have just spend 2 hours chatting to some lecturers in Avionics. They hadn't looked at any DR systems but we did have a chat about differential GPS. I was looking at a few GPS modules they had built up from recievers.

The differential would be nice to implement. Shoudlnt be too hard but I do like the DR system. Especialyl in town and it is easy to implement as the PC doesnt even know its there. They were suprised when I told them the device had the inertial filter built in.

Have a look at GPSGate from www.franson.biz, it has a 30 day trial and uses standard NMEA logs which it can record and playback. I use it so much I have it running permanently on my home AND work machine replaying a single log for whenever I need to test something

Cool. Will keep in in mind (and probably ask for a NMEA log at some point!!!) - I was thinking of borrowing a GPS module and doing some testing aorund bristol with it to see what kind of scatter i get.

The differential would be nice to addon too. Although the at Uni lecturer was saying that WAAS is now used over here.

There's a good overview I read today of what's in use where and what's planned for the future in this PDF:

cheers geezer.

currently looking at u-blox and tyco modules.

This is a good source of any OEM modules: their USB and serial level ones look ready for use. Pretty good price but nothing special (ie no DR or >1Hz updating)

I am thinking DR anyway. I spoke to the guys in avionics and they were well impressed with the car PC stuff and apparently this is more advanced than any current udnergrad research and the lecturers were amazed when i showed them the module with built in Kalman filters! The guy was describing them too me and said i would need to make them and iwas like "well they are all built into the board" - they asked why i didnt do avionics!! lol - me!! I am ****e at electronics. But they did have a module running on an RS232 and some othe rone with a 4 in the name so I can get help makign the stuff.

I bet my speedo doesnt have the pulse data! I know the DT version does but the damn french probably just used some Camembert to link the speedo to the gearbox!!!

Thats awesome, i'm gettting ready to order the DR module. Now I just need to find out where I can get the speed pulse from. I might be lucky and it's fed to the radio as it has ASC

I am hoping the speedo deals witht he pulse directly so I can just tap into the loom on the back of it (right next to my PC ).

Spoke to some more guys at Uni and they were intrigued but no help as they didnt know the modules existed and are used to dealing with proper intertial nav. Apparently the new Airbus A380 has a kickass system.

camembert to link the speed data... you crack me up Scouse...

Sorry to revive this but gotta subscribe.... do you have anything working thus far? as I posted on the other thread the ublox looked pretty cool in concept and the docs and tests are pretty convincing... my cit coverage with usb gps sucks, i'm going to try out oem module from garmin next, but DR would be the utmost goal... The "ready to rock" system from u-=blox (developer evalkits) were like 1500$, way above what I expected(sub $500) considering the module for GPS-DR was under $200... oh well...

Keep us posted of progress, I'd defiinitely be interested in getting one of your prototypes if you ever sell them, or a kit to build
