reg editing is not my best skill.
but the problem was most annoying.
If I delete the sermouse.* in windows, SFC puts them back.
If I unplug the gps so I can move the mouse, the 'ballpoint' mouse in device manager gets removed before I have a chance to disable it.
I did not know you could add keys to the registry with regedit that simply.
Now I will go and buy a new keyboard so you can see me talk properly....

I couldn't find the dllcache folder on my computer.

With my RandMCnally GPS Serial Rx, I had to do that 3 times each time the OS was installed and it stopped it.
I'm about to try the registry fixes.

I just did the reg fix last night for my RandMcnally serial and it seemed to work. The device manager had a serial mouse but a ! in it and the GPS RX still worked and I haven't had a jumpy mouse yet.
I just got my new BU355 with both a Serial and USB cable set. I'm testing it now with hibernation etc...testing xport etc..I wanna go USB if I can.

Registry fix or renaming the file eventually gets reversed (if you disconnect the GPS wire and reconnect it, windows somehow chnages the registry and/or reinstalls the driver) What finally worked for me was going to device manager and disabling (not deleting) serial mouse.

What do you mean disconnect the GPS wire?
The RandMcNally has a PS2 connection for power and a RS-232 connection for data to the serial port.
The RandMcNally is serial port and the PC doesn't know if it's connected or not like a USB GPS.
I don't see how it would change the registry if you unplugged the unit. Maybe if it was USB, then I could see...
I have to check my new BU355 via USB and see if that changed the registry entry back.

Yes, but he has a serial gps so unplugging it will do nothing except stop the mouse from jumping if it ever starts.
I think yours is only relative if you have a USB GPS that makes a virtual com port. Hence why you say driver.
Serial GPS units don't use drivers like the USB GPS units.

The way I use to solve the problem in my old setup with my RandMcNally was to wait for the mouse to jump, then pull the power port on it (PS2).
Goto device manager and then right click and disable.
Then re-plug the ps2 power port for the gps and no jumping.
After no system changes, the mouse would do this two more times after certain reboots. I would repeat the steps above and it would fix it. I would do this a total of 3 times and it seemed to stop it. I ran my CarPC install without formatting for 1-1/2 years and the mouse never jumped after the disabling 3 times.
If you use hibernate though, you may only have to do this once. Unless your system reboots and possibly detects it as a serial mouse.

block gps as a mouse
I see that some people are still strugling with a jumping mouse coused by the GPS recognized as a mouse.
for those who don't want to click a registery fix al the time that it happens, download this program
http://www.stentec.com/anonftp/pub/w...ockersetup.exe
it is in dutch but is rarely simple, search the com port for your gps eg com1 for a serial one or maybe com 6 for a USB one, check the checkbox.
and the plug and play option is disabled. no more grazy mouse!!
