Also, am I right in thinking that one MAX233 will do for both com ports?
So a MAX233cpp would require what extra?

Still struggling to find a connector with/without ribbon cable to fit the 2mm pitch/20 way header that's on the board, tried RS, Farnell, CPC etc. Anybody know where I can find these?

the cpp will work as well, it does not need anything external and it does have a pair of drivers so it will work for both com ports

£23.40 for one teeny tiny little connector!! ****!!
Ok, I can loose the £10.00 handling fee if I buy 75 quids worth
So I only have to buy 70 connectors, bargain @ £87.18!
Edit: Hang on, If I buy 94, I can save shipping as well, that's 94 connectors for £100.96. Now what can I buy with all the money I saved??
I can't wait to tell the wife that I saved £22 by buying 94 connectors instead of just 1.....

The 2x10 IDC socket, you need to get a ribbon cable for it like the one from floppy. You can use a vice to attach the cable on to it, else by a proper tools for it. Just make sure you cut the cable 90 degress and chek for short if you are unsure with your work.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?...a=idc&doy=17m5
If you want you can use the floppy cable, except they are longer, 34 pins.
Nothing to worry about as the IDC on the board you have is not on a socket.
Use HDD cable even, dont matter, I guess its only for testing for now?
