that would be wonderful. Thanks for the help.

I could take a pic but from the bottom it's hard to see where one component is from another. There are 17/20 (used) pins on the Ublox header, 6 on the gyro, upto 14 on the Max233 and more on the serial connector. Think spaghetti

Oh yeah, I can give you the pinouts if you use the same components that I used..As per the first post.

I can wait, it's going into my car like it is this weekend but in the future I'd like to add an old mobile phone (insides) to com2 so you can dial in and get the gps data. (One reason why I wanted it to have it's own power supply)

well my thought was to just have a full daughterboard with a power regulator and the gyro mounted on it and 2 serial headers. So that way you could power it from pretty much anything

2 serial headers? Do you mean this GPS takes up 2 com ports? My touchscreen already occupies one of my com ports. I don't think I can spare more than 1 more.
Laidback, yeah, I have the exact same components as you (-) the max chip. Gonna have to shop around to find 1.
Also, is that a RJ11 or RJ45 connector on the board. Can't really tell.
jcdillin, if you design the pcb board, will you have some components on it and we'll solder the rest. Or will it just be a board with holes and traces and we'll have to provide the rest?

It doesn't take up 2 serial ports, but it has 2 headers. i.e you can send the data to 2 ports if you want to. I want to connect 1 to my pc and the other to a mobile phone.
The MAX chips are easy to come by, order a couple of samples from their website.
It's a RJ45 connector, I use that instead of a DB9 serial connector.

I could do both, have a partial populated board and a unpopulated board

surely you can use the maxim serial chip you use to convert the TTL to output to mulitple serial ports anyway. Or is that the 4XX not the 232 version (Jerry, please fill in the blanks and correct me as i am sure you know what i am on about). Then you don't need to build a separate serial circuit for each of the TTL outputs.

how soon can you get the boards done? I'm going shopping to all the radioshack I know to look for the max chips, and rj45 terminals and the socket thingy. I want it to be as identical as possible so I know I won't get anything wrong.

The 233 will do 2 ports anyway. You still need something to connect your cable to.

Don't shop until he's done the board. Then there will be a list of parts needed. He may not use an RJ45 connector like I did.

laidback, do you have the RS part number for the max233? I tried looking and they don't seem to have anything.
unless jcdillin would provide everything on the board. What's the timeframe do you think you'll have the board available jcdillin?
