yeah I would use a small relay to do that switching, to make sure you keep the 12v away from that input

what's the benefit of wiring the reverse anyway? Seems like more work for something that current software doesn't support???

well if you start going backwards you still get the VSS speedo pulse but the car is going the wrong way and without a compass the DR does not know you are going backwards as there is no rotational change to detect. It would need a fore/aft accelerometer or compass to detect without the reverse input - hence a $1 solution (bit of wire and a connector) or a $50 solution.

nevermind, I thought the software will determine that I'm going backward or not. I understand what's the reverse do now. It's to ensure my map doesn't go forward while I'm going backward right?

hmmm... so If I put a relay on my backlights line to kick the reverse line to ground when it detects that I'm going backward. That would solve it right?

Laidback, in the meantime, what is your reverse line connected to? nothing?

Grrrrrrr.... I finally sodder everything and wire it up to the car. And guess what??? It doesn't work!!!! Grrrrr.... I think it's my lack in soddering skill. I may have to rewire the whole thing again. Grrrrr...... Any tips on how to start?

Maybe I had the connectors all wrong. How is the numbering sequence go on the max chip and the ublox pins?

I though on the max it's 1-10 on one side and 11-20. And the ublox is odds on outter row and even on the inner row.

I guess I should have start this thing one at a time, and test it in house b4 trying it the first time in the car.

any update on the pcb board? It's looks extremely tempting after this first attempt.

Yeah, I think your pin numbering is correct, I tested mine indoors as I built it.

darn, that means I screwed up somewhere. Maybe I should just try without the gyro first. Is that how you started out?

I did, do you get anything at all from it? You know the default speed is set to 9600? or something like that...

No worries, I'm in no rush what so ever... just curious if that was still the plan.
Seems unnecessary that everyone keeps re-inventing the wheel if "we" will have a PCB and component list in a few weeks / months time.

Let me know if you need any help with anything.
