Most have reported good results with the Rikaline. Where is it mounted?

Some window tints can interfere with reception. Also, your computer or screen can cause interference. I've experienced that and until I corrected it, the reception in the evenings and on cloudy/rainy days was much worse.

Okay, then don't worry about the signal strength until you get it in your car. Some people can get a signal in their house, some can't. You'll get MUCH better reception when it has a full sky view.

The best reception will come from putting it on the roof of your car. Not only does it get an excellent view of the sky, the metal of the car gives it a nice ground plane, which is supposed to help GPS recevers.

If putting it inside the car, put it somewhere that is A) not too close to your computer, although if the computer is inside a metal case, this may not be too much of an issue, B) has the maximum view of the sky.

Lots of people put it on either the rear shelf or front dash and get good results. However, if you can't get good reception that way, you can dip the unit in "plasticote" to weather proof it (do a search on plasticote and you'll find threads where people have done this, it's easy).

i've never had any problems with my rikaline. however, they do need a "clear view of the sky" which means a clear sky (no clouds). i've driven through snow and rainstorms without any problems though... usually maintain 5-8 satelites

I think you're fine. Maybe the signal through the window is really weak and a little clouds or rain is enough to wreck it.

Wait until you're in the car with it. I bet it will be fine. Or take it out for a test ride with a laptop and see.
