Yeah, it also doesnt say what frequency it works on... I wonder if it would work here in Brazil or in the US...
If you look at the shop "categories" and go into GPS/GSM Tracking you will see they have GPS antenna, and also some wiring... I assume these might be needed to connect the device?

it also doesnt specify how the "realtime tracking" works... it says Realtime YES, but I wonder how it works...
I guess SMS is pretty cool if someone steals the car, but just for routine realtime tracking needs something active (as opposed to polled, passive)

Yeah it is still cheap considering you get a gps, antenna, modem and a controller.
The adverts is very vague, look like its trying to hide something.
Hope they take a pic of the whole system and not just a box

They are selling a backup battery for it second hand. So I guess the tracker is also a second hand pulled from fleet cars.
Eagle eye tracking unit backup battery. Second hand unit, no warranty on battery. The battery has been stocked for a long time and maybe needs to be replaced or have a good charge. Normal sales price is Euro 110.
Am I buying a battery or just the case for the battery?

Nope the 159 euro is not for a complete set, the GSM modem aswell the GPS reciever is included.
You need next to this unit an active GPS antenna and an GSM antenna both are sold via the same webstore.
The GSM modem in the unit is a Wavecom WMOi3 and is suited for the 900 and 1800 Mhz GSM network.
The backup battery is a complete unit including battery and charching electronics. (my batt. was DOA, but was easy to replace)
If you use the backup batt. you will also need an extra cable!

What I was thinking was I have Wi-FI in the car, and I can usually get a descent signal within the city limits, at most major intersections. So why not record the data, and then should the thief drive by a hotspot, while stealing the car, you'd at least know where he was, and which direction he was last headded in... to report it to the police... and you could setup a server, at home that would recieve and log these results, and you'd ignore them as long as the car was in your posession, but send them to the poilce should you find your ride stolen in the moring, after work, lunch, etc.... Costs $0 and is do-able with the equipment I have now... the only issue is to run a serial splitting programm so that I could run the logger and Routis at the same time....

GPSSecure (program in the forums) can do this for you right now...
In my case however, living in one of the worlds largest cities, with thousands of buildings around me, etc.... even GPRS is a long shot...
Also, your solution depends on the carpc being on and running... The other solutions presented are independent, which adds much benefit!

LoJack is one of the vehicle tracking systems out in the market developed and manufactured by LoJack Corporation. Its name, LoJack, is a rather comical derivative of the term "hijack".
LoJack is an extremely effective form of a vehicle tracking system. It markets itself as 90% effective in terms of vehicle recovery rate, and actual tests seem to support this statement. One particular study showed that the use of LoJack and other similar systems not only prevents carjackers from getting away but also decreases the occurrence of car thefts in general.

viper sells a gps alarm system for a couple hundred bucks, but you either have to install it yourself or pay for it installed, then it is a yearly fee, like 50 bucks or something like that.
