GPS dropping in and out

With my setup listed below, I ALWAYS lose my gps signal and it takes forever to acquire. Could it be that I have everything including my monitor running off the M1-ATX? I'm thinking it's a power issue. GPS not getting enough juice? I just wanted to make sure before i rewire my monitor directly to 12V instead of the PSU. I've unplugged my hub so maybe it would give the gps more juice..still same problem. My gps is pretty much useless dropping in and out like that because I tend to miss my exit or turn.

I had this issue and it turned out to be RF interference from the screen. I also had the GPS place very near the mobo and had the same issue. When placed away from both, it receives fine and acquires quickly.

Try it on the roof and away from any possible interference. If it works fine, you'll know it's not a power issue.

Ok...my carpc is indash as well as my monitor. I have a 10ft. usb extension to the rear of the car and the gps antenna is mounted on my trunk since it's magnetic and waterproof. So the gps shouldn't catch any interference from the monitor or pc. Next guess would be that usb extension cable is bad...so I unplugged it and hooked it directly to the usb port on the mobo. Still the same problem and yes it sees the sky clearly.

Hi,

I had simular experiences and I had to add an active usb extension, to get a good gps-signal due to the length of my usb-cable(although it should not be needed).

Yikes! You've got it set up as well as you could. Outside, on a metal surface, far away from the computer. You say you hooked it directly to the PC without the extension cable in the mix?

One final thought, try it with a different computer. Use somebody's laptop if you can.

Otherwise, if it's a new unit, I'd return it. It's not working properly.

DK888 - if you wait until this weekend, I have an active USB1.1 extension cable that you can test..

edit: or if you want to swing by beforehand, that's cool too..

Solar Flares can cause disruptions with GPS signals as well as Cell Phones signals. Recently these solar flares have been acting up a bit...

was it working well before?

Ok. tomorrow I will pull the monitor from being powered by the psu. I'll see what happens then. Solar flares for the past 3 months? I guess you never know. But let's see what happens.
