Question Finally a great alternative to Destinator 3 for the UK!

I was reading the pocket gps website and came across the NEW Alturion 6!

This software works with both PDA and Laptop and seems perfect (almost)!

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/alturion-6.php

I posted in the forums and asked the reviewer about this software.

Apparently the PC version has the same full navigation as the PDA version. It also has 3D View, TMC (with a TMC GPS), tracking, weather, POI and loads of other stuff!!

I'm really excited about this as it looks like it may be a great solution. It has a SDK too and is skinnable.

Destinator 3 is just not good enough to be honest - this software looks like it may be the one to use. Just wish it could be embedded into Road Runner/CF but I'm sure that will come in time!

Co-pilot Laptop 8 is another contender but the UK version STILL doesn't seem to be out!

What do you think?

cant seem to get their site to work. Any idea about thepricing of the software, maps and SDK etc? What do you mean by TMC GPS? do you mean the GPS recievers with RDS/TMC recievers built in like the one by carTFT (made by a german place i posted a link to somewhere)

It is the GNS GPS/TMC reciever they use. I wonder if it will work with a differernt RDS/TMC reciever as I want to use a dead reckoning GPS module.

Quote:
Alturion hope to have the TMC deal signed soon which will add Traffic Data to the features, using the supplied RDS/TMC GPS Receiver means there is no subscription fee required nor a connection to a cell phone.

Pricing:

http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pcp/Software.html

ALTURION V. 6 STANDARD SOFTWARE ONLY £76.59
ALTURION V. 6 PROFESSIONAL FOR SOFTWARE ONLY £154.89

Not that bad really - standard version is probably the best value.

These prices exclude a TMC GPS however

I think it would be worth approaching this profesionally. IE someone whith the knowledge to develop this takes control and contacts the company telling them what we would like to do and asking relevant questions such as the ability to take TMC from an RDS reciever such as the USB one developed here or from Tpeg (or whatever its called on DAB). Does it have dynamic re-routing in response to TMC data? If it does it would be perfect but as some guys are currently working on an alternative to TMC then maybe the data can be adapted to appear like TMC to this software sow e can take full use of the re-routing behaviour. Also, as the D3 SDK might now expire and they seem to be a bit gay then mayeb this company will be mroe willing to work with us.

Terran, Gareth (UK_mp3car), stevieg and ninjamonkey would be my choices to sort it out as they are the guys who know the most about this stuff.

EDIT: not that i am nominating you guys or anything. I just know how passionate you are about your GPS and traffic info!

I do not think asking them about demoversion of current product would require professional approach . But I agree they should not be contacted ad-hoc regarding their SDK policy etc.
